Was the merged team eligible for the playoffs?

[edit]

Please see a lengthy discussion here on whether or not this article should state that the Steagles were ineligible to participate in the postseason. — DeeJayK (talk) 14:38, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The origin of Same old Steelers

[edit]

3 of 4 sources say that the origin of the moniker same old steelers came from 1 quote by Rooney. The last source attributes it to a different statement by Rooney. For Bert Bell, its not really important what the quote was, the only thing that's important is he became dejected after Rooney made the statement. I would like to bring it into this article and move it out of Bell. You guys can figure out what the real statement was. Any objections? It will allow me to delete off topic stuff/too detailed info in the Bell article:

In their inaugural season, Bell was resigned to the Steelers having a dreadful season after Rooney denigrated the team during training camp in a phrase that would soon morph into the "Same old Steelers"−(SOS).[1][2][3][4]

FYI, its not unwise to ignore Claassen, see Marc S. Maltby's book. Football historians in the 1950s are not as complex did not have the resources as an association as the PRFA in the 1980s and 1990s did. 66.234.33.8 (talk) 23:25, 8 October 2011 (UTC)66.234.33.8 (talk) 23:27, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
