I have not done vandalism

[edit]

I added context to his political views and gave context with an academic source and the primary source. Cluebot did a false positive — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cathylinch1997 (talkcontribs) 20:49, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I personally don't think it's vandalism, but I don't know a lot about this topic. Just be sure to proofread prior, please. Squeeyote (talk) 23:09, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Copy paste issues

[edit]

I noticed upon reading this article that a large portion on tasawwuf was copied and pasted from a book, claiming that Ibn Qayyim al-Jawzia and Ibn Jawzi both were reported to have quoted Sufyan ath-Thawri as praising the Sufis, in the books Madarij as-Salikeen and Sifat as-Safwa respecticely. Upon checking both books in their entirety - I have both transcribed word for word in the original Arabic in Word documents - I found that the quote was a fabrication and not in either book. For example, the quote of ath-Thawri from Ibn al-Jawzi in regard to Abu Hashim says:
قال أبو نعيم الحافظ أبو هاشم من قدماء زهاد بغداد ومن أقران أبي عبد الله البراثي وبلغني أن سفيان الثوري جلس إليه وقال ما زلت آرائي وأنا لا أشعر حتى جالست أبا هاشم فأخذت منه ترك الرثاء.
And we can see clearly that the word "Sufi" or "tasawwuf" doesn't even appear in their.MezzoMezzo 21:50, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NOT Shia

[edit]

I am wondering why person(s) keep claiming he is Shia. He is most definitely not! Even if he was, a valid reference is needed. Thus, I will now undo the revision - please avoid edit war, if you have proof he was Shia, please bring it here :) Thanks ServantofAllah93 (talk) 15:56, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not a Sufi

[edit]

I've read a couple of narrations about Sufyan at-Thawri and none of them labels him a sufi. There is a difference between an ascetic (az-zuhd) and a sufi, just as Imam Ibn Al-Jawzi pointed out in his book, Talbis Iblis. The reference used to label him as a sufi here, the book by Abu Nu'aym, has been denounced as spurious. See to this, whoever is in charge. Waliyullah Tunde (talk) 14:24, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
