[edit]

Riksväg is difficult to translate into English in a good way (see rike), what would be a good title for this? Keep the current Swedish word, or translate it into English in some way (e.g. Swedish road of the realm), or use some hybrid term e.g. riksroad? Also to be considered is consistency, Länsväg is easier to translate into English (e.g. Swedish county road), even though it would be a longer term. I find it would be good to have both these related articles named in the same kind of fashion. TimSE 21:46, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

See page 7 of the following PDF: http://www.vv.se/filer/publikationer/facts_2005.pdf
The categories used there are:
  • European highways
  • Other national roads
  • Primary county roads
  • Other county roads
It doesn't give the Swedish terms, and I can't be bothered looking for the same document in Swedish, but with knowledge of the total length of each road category, it should be easy to identify exactly what each of these English terms is intended to translate.
A suggestion for Wikipedia purposes:
  • (European highways [in Sweden]) - I don't know if these need articles specifying the country, but I suppose not
  • Swedish national roads
  • Swedish primary county roads
  • Swedish county roads

Ah, good idea to look there. Yes, the "national roads" indicates "riksväg" and "county roads" indicates "länsväg"
Your suggestion is quite sound, although separating the main article about primary county roads from the secondary/tertiary county roads might not be necessary, at least not yet.
Revised suggestion for Wikipedia purposes:
  • Swedish national roads
  • Swedish county roads
  • Swedish national road NN (for articles about a specific national road)
  • Swedish county road NNN (for articles about a specific primary county road)
  • Swedish county road XXNNNN (for articles about specific secondary and tertiary county roads - although I am not sure if the county code is prefixed with a whitespace or not. I can't seem to be able to find any example mentioning such roads with the county code present)

Well, I've made the changes now, as above, but in a singular form for the two topmost. I've performed the changes to all articles I have used the swedish terms in. TimSE 20:21, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
