Requested move 17 February 2024
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. The result of the move request was: moved to The Colonnades, Croydon. The discussion appears to have converged on the opinion that "The Colonnades" is the WP:COMMONNAME for this location; however, that COMMONNAME does need disambiguation, and the comma-separated location was found to be preferable for achieving that goal. Colonnades Leisure Park → Croydon Colonnades – This place is more widely known as "Croydon Colonnades" or "The Colonnades", but "The Colonnades" would require disambiguation and is hence less attractive an option. For example, see Google Trends in the UK (where most traffic would occur). There is much more searching for "Croydon Colonnades" than "Colonnades Leisure Park". —Matrix(!) - Comment Do sources use that name at all? Or is it just a colloquial name? WP:COMMONNAME is based on what sources use. DankJae 14:43, 17 February 2024 (UTC)

- Move to The Colonnades, Croydon with a new disambiguation page for "Colonnades" or "The Colonnades". As a litmus test,
"Croydon Colonnades"
returns about 4,000 results for me in a gsearch, while"croydon" "the colonnades"
returns 21,600. The local newspaper seems to prefer "the Colonnades" and so does a BBC news article. I appreciate that this will require a disambiguation page, but several Wikipedia pages already result from searching "the Colonnades" or "Colonnades", so a disambiguation page likely should already exist. In my assessment of the sources, "Croydon Colonnades" is not the WP:COMMONNAME, and so the proposed page move there isn't justified. Separately, "Croydon Colonnades" makes it sound like some landmark, like talking about an archaeological park, rather than a retail centre. IgnatiusofLondon (talk) 16:31, 26 February 2024 (UTC)- @IgnatiusofLondon: I don't see the need for a new "Colonnades" disambiguation page when Colonnade (disambiguation) can absorb plural senses. - I missed this...very good, and I agree! IgnatiusofLondon (talk) 21:48, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
