The result of the debate was move. —Nightstallion (?) 11:19, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
cf. Sahara, Himalaya. Pissant 15:02, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
- I can see an argument, but I'm not convinced because the "the" is part of the name, as it would not be in, say, "the Glen of Aherlow". The examples are more like the latter (the Sahara Desert, the Himalaya mountains) but "The Curragh" is a name-in-itself. See The Fens. BrendanH 15:42, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

Result?
[edit]I'm a bit surprised at Nightstallion's interpretation of the discussion. A proposal, an argument against, a single (unargued) vote for, becomes an unambiguous "move"? BrendanH 11:28, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
Move back
[edit]I propose to move the article back to The Curragh. This is the correct name, it has always been known as The Curragh, not Curragh. I will leave any move for at least 1 month so that everyone can contribute. 78.145.63.4 (talk) 12:29, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
- I might add that there is also a disambiguation issue here; there is an area used by the Post Office called "Curragh" (Example of an address - Mr X, Carna, Suncroft, Curragh, County Kildare - Carna is a townland but it isn't in "The Curragh" geographically. (The postal area includes the Curragh Camp and areas outside the Curragh but not all of the geographical area commonly called "The Curragh". So "Curragh" and "the Curragh" refer to two different things and their areas are different. I'd support a move back. Sarah777 (talk) 12:47, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
- I would support a move, but Sarah, do you have enough verifiable sources for two distinct articles? Cheers ww2censor (talk) 17:16, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
- Afraid not - I'm going on intimate personal knowledge of the area! But I don't think "Curragh" requires an article; is is a non-notable postal area centered on "Curragh"; the post office in the Curragh Camp. The geographical area known as "the Curragh" is easily identifiable on the ground and isn't contiguous with the "Curragh" Post Office area. Sarah777 (talk) 00:29, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
- I would support a move, but Sarah, do you have enough verifiable sources for two distinct articles? Cheers ww2censor (talk) 17:16, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Camps
[edit]Barely a mention --- merely a link --- to The Curragh Mutiny, which is what most British people remember about the place; but no mention at all of Dev's internment camps for many --- often indeed, disagreeable --- dissenters during the Emergency ? Claverhouse (talk) 06:14, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
- There is a separate article, Curragh Camp. Sarah777 (talk) 20:20, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
- I'm puzzled why this article is still called "Curragh" rather than "The Curragh" - y'know WP:COMMONNAME, despite an apparent decision to move it. I'll try to do that now...Sarah777 (talk) 20:20, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
