Very nice article. I just brought it into wiki form by linking to other articles within wikipedia. Needs some POV work still. The article The Citadel (military college) does not link to this article as yet. It should. --Brad101 02:05, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do you just dislike the Guards that much or did you not make the unit and are pissed over that? Think of all the other things you could do with the time and energy you spend spewing this hatred. I'd really hate to see what happens when something really bad happens in your life. It's sad to think that you wear the ring and you have to spend your time obsessing over the Summerall Guards which have absolutley no impact or bearing on anything that happens outside of the college. Maybe it's time to grow up and move on.

I have returned the page to represent the information that it presented before any major changes. The Summerall Guards have traditionally been presented in the light as a better part of the University. From simple observation this is not true. The actual story of the Guards should be presented; not just a false viewpoint of someone in the organization trying to hide the actual dirty laundry of the group. The remarks about the training being humiliating...true. The remarks about discouraging women...true. These are not remarks of hatred. These are the truth. If the person in the group who so fervently defends it wishes to live in the world of denile that they have created for themself, then that is okay by me. I was simply trying to give the public the actual facts regarding the Summerall Guards. I took part in the training and was a member of the Summerall Guards, and I do not appreciate the shots that you take at me. I am just dissapointed in what the organization has become. You obviously prove my point in your biased, opinionated take on the group, and in your ignorant attack on a graduate of The Citadel. To be honest, I feel incredibly sorry for you, and I pray that the Citadel is still turning out people of real worth.

I cannot believe a former Guard wrote that.. This organization is the only part of the school that really means anything now. It's the only group on campus that isn't watered down. It is the last true TRADITION at The Citadel. The Guards represent the pursuit of perfection that is the life of a cadet. They are the epitome of what The Citadel does, or once did, produce- The Citadel Man. A female should never be a Guard. It would compromise everything the organization represents. And BVA training is anything but humiliating. I had the best days of my cadet career during the first three weeks of Spring semester junior year. It was the hardest thing I had ever done up to that point in my life. The bond that was created during those cold January afternoons, between myself and the other guys that went out there everyday, is something that I will always cherish. It was extremely hard because it had to be. BVA training eliminates the weak and elevates those who truly want it. The school's alumni should not be anything but proud of the organization. I believe that if Gen. Mark Clark could see The Citadel's current status he would roll over in his grave. But it comforts me to know that The Summerall Guards are still, and will continue, carrying on the traditions that he and others worked so hard to establish many years ago. The Guards would sooner disband than allow a female to join their ranks or let the administration tamper with their unique system to the degree that it degrades the experience. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ElCidSG (talkcontribs) 07:49, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I, for one, like the fact that an image of the original Confederate Battle Flag patch is posted in the article. It is done in an objective way and displays a piece of the Guards history that many people have not seen before. It was the "regular" patch until around 2004 when the administration changed it due to outside pressure. I'm very confident most Guard alumni would rather see this patch displayed on the page as it is an important footnote in the unit's history - and The Citadel's history as well. As much as the some would like to forget it - young cadets did fight, and some die, for the Southern cause during the American Civil War. I know the Big Red flag is equally important in the school's history, but must we eliminate every semblance of Southern heritage to appease the recent wave of no-holds-barred political correctness? Just me .02 cents. I say keep the image on the page.

You guys forgot Low Cuts, or did they get rid of that too? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.27.76.200 (talk) 17:49, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
