There are a number of people in the "mysterious people" category that do not belong. There is nothing mysterious about him. We know who he was, where he was born, his career details, family life, businesses he owned, appearence before he thought up the gimmick....... the only so-called "mystery" was that for a couple of years he wore a paper back as a mask as part of his act. I've removed the category again. Niteshift36 (talk) 07:14, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I asked you to discuss this here so we had an opportunity to debate this BEFORE making further changes. I've re-added the category while we discuss. Please don't remove it until we at least do that. I do not want to get into a WP:3RR issue.
The category does not specify people who have remained mysterious in perpetuity. The simple fact is that for a while, the Unknown comic was mysterious. People did not know who he was at that time because of the reasons outlined in the article. Therefore he was a mystery ('mysterious'), and deserves to be in the category. If you think that the specifications of the category are wrong, then make that change before removing the category from this specific article. If there's a problem, treat the source, not the symptom. --Kickstart70-T-C 18:15, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I DID discuss it. Just because you were sitting right here waiting doesn't mean I didn't. Here is the criteria: "This category is for people about whom there is (or was for a long period) a mystery as to their identity, immediate origins, or life." A couple of years, wearing a mask on stage, is not a mystery to his identity. It was a gimmick.

Further: "It should not include people merely because few facts are known about their lives due to a lack of documentation. Also, just because a person is reclusive or hides his activities is not a reason to include him in this category, nor would a simple lack of surviving records justify inclusion in the category. The category should include unidentified criminals only if a better category in which they fit in does not exist." He hid his identity for a few short years only while performing. There is no mystery there. And you made your revision without "discussing it" either, so please don't act so pious.Niteshift36 (talk) 22:33, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pious, eh? Perhaps that's a reaction to you acting like you own Wikipedia. In any case, your second justification is a valid reason for Unknown Comic not to be included in the category, so I'll let this drop. Just to be clear though, this in no way needed to be an argument if you would have just discussed before further reverting. Remember that Wikipedia operates by consensus, not unilateral action against other's work. --Kickstart70-T-C 17:05, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, pious. You come in arguing about discussion ahead of time, yet did no discussion of your own. I chose "pious" over "hypocrite", but I could be convinced to change that. Have you considered that's why I reacted the way I did? And not every action on wikipedia requires a vote. I read the entire criteria before making my deletion. Moon Zappa has said that the expression "bag your face" that appears in her 1982 song "Valley Girl" was a reference to The Unknown Comic, who she enjoyed watching with her father Frank Zappa on TV. 173.88.246.138 (talk) 00:03, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
