[edit]

www.arlingtoncemetery.net/ttcraven.htm is a problematic website. While it has lots of info, it is basically WP:SPS. (IOW, it's not WP:RS.) Also not secure because it doesn't use HTTPS. While it may have leads to other sources, proceed with caution. – S. Rich (talk) 21:18, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This article does not mention his Court Martial?

[edit]

This seems to be a serious omission. It definitely happened and he was found guilty by a panel of 9 senior officers that included David Farragut and John Dahlgren. It appears to be a poorly commented on subject, finding sources is difficult. An account does appear in The New York Times of December 18 1865. [CASE OF COMMODORE CRAVEN.; Sentences of the Court-Martial Disapproved--Spirited Communications from Secretary Welles. - The New York Times (nytimes.com)] And commented on elsewhere. [07 Apr 1866 - THE CASE OF COMMODORE CRAVEN. - Trove (nla.gov.au)] A Naval Officer being Court-Martialed for failing too engage the enemy is a serious matter. In the Royal Navy's contemporary Articles of War it was quite explicitly a Capital Offence Edgeworthy (talk) 03:48, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
