Double dab

[edit]

@Fyrael: I was reading WP:DOUBLEDAB and had the impression DAB pages could have DAB hatnotes ("meta-DAB"). I had moved the long redirect-dab hatnotes from Tide and I'm afraid the reader won't find them as quickly with just DAB links in the See-also section. Your thoughts? fgnievinski (talk) 18:52, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not seeing anything about hatnotes in DOUBLEDAB. That refers to instances like Washington (disambiguation), which has a link to USS Washington, which then displays all the ships which could have gone on the main DAB page but are instead on the subpage in order to not overwhelm the main DAB (I realize USS Washington is technically a list article rather than a DAB, but I think the point stands). I agree that it will take readers longer to find those other DAB pages, but that seems appropriate to me. Those are just related titles that a person who has wound up on the Tide DAB are unlikely to have been looking for. Readers are more likely to be seeking one of the ambiguously named articles listed in the main sections of the DAB page. -- Fyrael (talk) 19:14, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with the intention, but technically those were not just related titles, they were redirects to the main article, each with their own DAB pages. Can I do similarly and move the long DAB hatnote in Botany into Botany (disambiguation)? fgnievinski (talk) 20:15, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I would suggest asking for opinions on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Disambiguation. -- Fyrael (talk) 06:40, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
