Restoring

[edit]

Hi folks: @Kharkiv07: @Johnpacklambert: @Kierzek: @Lemongirl942: @Northamerica1000: @PageantUpdater: This is to ping everyone who commented in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tina Machado and User_talk:GRuban#User:GRuban/Tina_Machado. I did some news searches, and she is much more notable than the article made it appear at the time. Besides winning, then losing, then suing and having restored Miss Hawaii USA, she has since become a moderately notable businesswoman (as well as former minor actress, karate champion, and reality show participant). Lots of coverage. I think the combination of all that is enough to meet our notability guideline, so I'm being WP:BOLD and restoring it with the new information. (Part of the issue with noticing that coverage was probably that half of that coverage is under her married name, Placourakis; two references seem to have been so confused that they decided her middle name was actually her surname, and just call her Tina Marie! Most recently she seems to have since started going by her maiden name, Machado, again.) I hope you all feel the same way! If not, we can certainly start another AfD; in any case I don't want anyone to think that I'm doing this in any kind of secrecy, so am notifying whomever I think would be interested. --GRuban (talk) 17:48, 16 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"The inaccuracy of some of the facts" edits

[edit]

Over the last few months User:Sallyknots made several deletions to this article, most without detailed explanation, until this edit with the comment (The inaccuracy of some of the facts. Her divorce and relationship with Chili Davis and the dates and certain events. Her work with Bruce Friedman and the SEC's involvement with Bruce Friedman.) It's since been reverted, but I'd like to thank her for that explanation, since we can now at least discuss it. We don't know Ms Machado or any of the events in the article personally, we only write from sources, in this case mainstream newspapers.

First, the dates with Chili Davis. The Arizona Republic, on Friday, April 7, 2006, Page 31, writes "Davis met Placourakis, a former beauty queen and the ex-wife of a prominent Honolulu restaurateur, in 1999. They moved in together in 2000...". Also the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, June 14, 2000, writes: restaurateur Aaron Placourakis and wife Tina Marie ... have now separated and divorce proceedings are under way. In the meantime, Tina Marie, a former beauty queen locally, has taken up residence in Arizona with retired New York Yankees star Chili Davis... So we can't write that Machado divorced first and met Davis later.

Second, the work with Bruce Friedman. It's true that some coverage accused Machado of being Friedman's girlfriend, but it generally used the word "alleged", so they weren't sure, so it's best just to leave that out, rather than put it in and then say it was false. We don't have many details about Machado's work with the SEC, so again, can't put it in; if we had reliable sources writing about it, we would be able to. We could write more about Friedman, but this article is really about Machado, so should focus on her, not him. Thanks for trying to help make the article better, it is appreciated. --GRuban (talk) 15:23, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
