Who the heck are "JJ Morley and Lucien Barrett"?

[edit]

The entry for the first game in 2002 says it was based on "based on the spies, JJ Morley and Lucien Barrett". This is literally the only reference to these individuals, making me suspect that this is vandalism. Accordingly, I have removed this reference. If, however, someone has a cite showing that these two are somehow involved with the game, feel free to restore it with appropriate citation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.98.67.23 (talk) 13:53, 11 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ridiculous edits

[edit]

I don't know who thought it would be a great idea to remove links to the individual games or to delete my map without posting any reason, but I just want it to be known that I've reinserted those. Maybe next time we can discuss--or at least try to justify--major edits in the future.Joe routt 03:33, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article

[edit]

This article should be either deleted or merged with the video game article of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell.

No. This article is on the series. Video games, series of books, and a future movie. Theres no need to merge it or move it or delete it K1Bond007 July 5, 2005 03:34 (UTC)
No. No need to merge since the page is on a character, not the game itself. --Dangman4ever 02:56, 26 November 2005 (UTC)

nitpicks

[edit]

"The series of video games are third-person stealth shooters developed and published by Ubisoft and are a vital part of a large wave of stealth-based third-person video games that became popular in the late 1990s." How can a game that came out in 2002 be part of wave of games from the late 1990s? Also, there was basically Metal Gear Solid and Thief at this point, the so-called wave didn't happen until a rash of games sprung up after Splinter Cell's success.

"The originators of the genre, the acclaimed Metal Gear games, have much in common with the Splinter Cell titles in terms of gameplay." No mention of thief?

fifth freedom?

[edit]

What are the first four? I'm guessing it's something to do with the US constitution, but a brief reminder & a link would be nice -- Tarquin 15:55, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It says in the third echelon article: freedom of speech, of religion, freedom from want, and freedom from fear.
Merge it.
The four freedoms were listed by FDR during a speech. That's all I can remember, but that at least heads you in the right direction. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.151.114.64 (talk) 13:41, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's pretty easy to search Wikipedia for "four freedoms". There's a pretty detailed article. ColdFusion650 (talk) 14:06, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merging character articles into main article

[edit]

I think we should merge the character articles into the main Splinter Cell article, or (in the case of characters like Sadano or Nikoladze) at least into the articles for the individual games in which they appear.

These character articles are rather short, and it's unlikely there's going to be much that can be added to them (Many of these guys are dead, for starters). Joylock 18:00, 09 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Go for it, but do the latter. Add them to the specific game/novel in which they appear. If they're a character that was in more than one, then add them here - for now. K1Bond007 03:38, 10 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Don't put Shetland on the main page, he was only the main enemy in SCCT. Put Nicoladze on the 1st game Soth and Suhadi on the 2nd and Shetland for the 3rd. Why Nedich? He was hardly major at all and it seems odd to list him as the major villan.

Why not just a page for SC (support) characters? Shetland's info on his own page really doesn't seem to warrant the space it takes up, and I think it would look better with other similar blurbs. TotalTommyTerror 19:25, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah on second thought lets make a List of Splinter Cell characters page and put them all there. This can include anyone from the games or novels. K1Bond007 19:46, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Is the line

Stealth is critical for playing the game, and shooting the way clear (as in the game Doom)

really necessary? The part about Doom I mean. TotalTommyTerror 19:00, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No it's not. Go ahead and remove it. Be bold. K1Bond007 19:46, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I say do it. He's an important character and was also Sam's best friend.

There is an automatic link from Shadownet to this page, but Shadownet is never mentioned in the whole article?! I was actually looking to get more information on Shadownet that is mentioned all over the TV series Nikita. Since I have no idea, why I was sent here, it would be good to clarify this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Naeschdy (talkcontribs) 15:46, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

References to Real Life NSA Operatives

[edit]

The comment; "The current equivelant to a Splinter Cell are agents in the NSA called the "Cool Troopers"." - has this any basis of fact? I would like to see a link added to this as I can't find any further information on the net about these "Cool Troopers". Factorylad 14:49, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently someone already removed this because I can't find a reference to it anywhere in the page. Cool beans either way as if it wasn't really sourced well the comparison between a Splinter Cell and a "cool trooper" is more speculation that *doesn't* need to be in Wikipedia! Connection between GR2 and SC

[edit]

Somebody posted a storyline connection between the PS2 version and SC:CT. Can anyone confrim this? ~Unicyclopedia

The sinking of the USS Clarence Walsh by a North Korean missile is a key point to both stories. Fisher and the Ghosts go in seperately to confirm if it was done. The universe is the same with the same time frame and both have heavy use of the XM8 Rifle.147.144.1.251 22:06, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't remember ever in SC that Sam uses and XM8...ofcourse in GR2 but never in SC—Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.36.163.68 (talkcontribs) 13:25, August 8, 2007 (CDT)

There is no XM8 in Splinter Cell. However, it's not mentioned in the article. So, no big deal.

Film

[edit]

I heard Peter Berg and J.T. Petty were returning. I was going to edit the film section for this, but I didn't know if someone read something I didn't. Did anyone? J-stan 01:07 26 July, 2006

Fisher's animations

[edit]

I don't recall it being stated anywhere that ALL of Sam Fisher's moves were hand-animated. Only moves such as the split jumps and others were hand-animated, due to the fact that certain actions are quite difficult to be done by motion actors. BishopTutu 05:28, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What sets Splinter Cell apart

[edit]

"What truly sets Splinter Cell apart from other games of its kind are its innovative multiplayer modes"-This is an opinion. I think what sets it apart is how the game strictly forces you to stick to stealth. How could this line be changed to reflect that, and still show that the multiplayer is innovative?Highly Calculated 08:22, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Castle Wolfenstein

[edit]

The "originators of the genre" bit mentions Metal Gear and Thief, however isn't Castle Wolfenstein in fact the first stealth game?

I'm a big Metal Gear fan and it was only recently that I found about Castle Wolfenstein. I was amazed. It predates Metal Gear and many of the features that we see in Metal Gear were actually first seen in Castle Wolfenstein.

Therefore, I reckon Castle Wolfenstein should be named as the originator of stealth gameplay as it predated the Metal Gear of 1987.

Or, the sentence could be changed to show that MGS and Thief popularised the stealth genre rather than originated it.

What do you think?

88.106.227.86 02:12, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, I don't think so, CW is different. A lot of PCgames could be mentioned that have stealth parts, but this games arent stealth-games in fact--ChrisJG 13:28, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Have you read Wikipedia's entry on Castle Wolfenstein? It is very similar to Metal Gear. According to the article, it WAS a stealth game. If CW wasn't a stealth game, then Metal Gear wasn't a stealth game. [User:88.106.164.224|88.106.164.224]] 01:34, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Seeing as Castle Wolfenstein IS one of the most famous first person games ever, I don't think a lot of your statementsare true.

Yes. Castle Wolfenstein is not Wolfenstein 3D. -68.211.174.201 (talk) 19:44, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed move to Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell series

[edit]
The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

To fit WP:NAME and WP:VG better, I suggest that this article, Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon will be moved to Tom Clancy's xxx series (where xxx is Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six respectively). --MrStalker talk 10:19, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think so. This is not a good idea. I see no reason to other than to make the title longer. ColdFusion650 23:08, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nah i dont think so either. It works fine with the name conventions used right now. ChrisJG 03:26, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Then, at least I think it should be moved to Splinter Cell series, because this article is about the Splinter Cell video game series, not just Splinter Cell. Splinter Cell is a frase that can mean any number of things, for example a terrorist cell. --MrStalker talk 09:06, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The info in the lead and the see also stuff at the top of the article makes the distinction enough. We have Splinter, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell (novel). I think that it works as it is now. If they go to Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell looking for the series, they can easily go to the correct page, and vice versa. There's no need to change things. ColdFusion650 16:32, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was requested that this article be renamed but there was no consensus for it be moved. --Stemonitis 17:00, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed move back to Splinter Cell

[edit]

After there was consensus not to move the page, User:Sam Blacketer moved the page citing it as non-controversial. I think the page should be moved back to its former location, as the current title is bulky. Not to mention that the more frequently used title for the series as a whole is simply, "Splinter Cell". Green451 17:51, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. ColdFusion650 22:30, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There was consensus here. --MrStalker talk 15:29, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Agree. As for that "consensus," it was for Ghost Recon. Irrelevant.

Moved Trivia

[edit]

I deleted the Tom Clancy part, then moved the other parts to Sam Fisher and Splinter Cell (game) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stinger503 (talkcontribs) 11:12, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The tom clancy approval part is fine, since Ubisoft owns him now, but I think the trident goggles bit should be in this article since it spans across all the games.  Donexeno (talk) 11:17, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I went and added the clancy part to Tom Clancy's page under games and the tri-goggles part looks good. Stinger503 (talk) 11:21, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well the approval statement is probably a little dated, since Ubisoft bought all rights to his name. That's probably some we should look at fixing in most of the Tom Clancy-game related articles. –xeno (talk) 11:27, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Third novel attributation

[edit]

"It is currently unknown who authored the third novel released in November 2006." But right below that, an author is listed for that novel. I have no idea which is right so I'm not touching it. - anon —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.233.42.204 (talk) 18:27, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Obviously the image layout sucks right now. But please don't just remove the images without comment. It's fair enough if you remove them and say "put them back in when the layout can support them better". Nczempin (talk) 18:22, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

okay, I've removed them for now, will put them back once it makes sense. Nczempin (talk) 23:16, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Graphics

[edit]

The graphics section seems useless and uninformative to me. Also, it's plainly ridiculously inaccurate. 1) Conviction doesn't use UE3 (check it's page; it uses LEAD). 2) Modern Warfare 3 doesn't either! (ditto, IW4). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rolln2013 (talkcontribs) 07:13, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to propose that when these pages are created for games, especially PC games, the author should include both the minimum, and the recommended PC hardware and OS profiles. Very little is more informative to a PC gamer. I nearly bought a game today that will not run on my computer because I have not upgraded to a dual core processor yet. I assumed that because it was in the bargain bin that it would run on older single core PCs. I know my PC's gaming days are nearing an end and will soon be passed down to the wife or kids, but for a short while it will have to do. Anyway, it would be great to know the required PC specs when looking up a wiki on a game that sounds interesting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.123.107.101 (talk) 01:31, 23 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Splinter Cell 6

[edit]

I couldn't find a reliable source for the name "Retribution", so I self-reverted. The "announcement for 2012 lineup" gets quoted on at least one other site that is fairly reliable (German magazine Gamestar), but nothing is to be found on the Ubisoft page. So until we have anything official, we should treat the name as a rumour (if at all). -- Nczempin (talk) 09:33, 29 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
