Discography

[edit]

Discogs claims that Tomeka Reid played on the following records that were at least partly recorded in Chicago or by performers living in Chicago, but I am not convinced. So, pending better verification or refutation, I'm temporarily listing them here:

  • Giddy Motors Make It Pop (FatCat Records, 2002)
  • Man Man Rabbit Habits (Anti-, 2008)
  • Jeremy Cunnigham The Weather Up There (Northern Spy, 2020 )

I've removed the links to Discogs & Amazon, as those aren't considered "reliable sources"––but AllMusic.com is generally fine, & I've added a few notable reviews. Knifegames (talk) 18:28, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Knifegames: I agree (even though I myself created some of those "unreliable" citations). Acwilson9 (talk) 03:21, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Acwilson9 Somehow missed this, eep––honestly, I feel like linking to the "official" album Bandcamp page should be enough by now, but… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ No one can say we weren't thorough, ha! Knifegames (talk) 09:09, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

I've removed the interlanguage links, which aren't the best idea because people are less likely to realize those artists are missing Wikipedia pages, especially if there's no language abbreviation; it's rarely useful for those using the English Wikipedia to be sent to a page in another language; and often content standards differ across Wikipedias. The German Wikipedia has much better coverage of avant-/contemporary jazz, but––as much as I hate to say it!––the vast majority of those articles do not have the number and quality of references expected to verify info on the English Wikipedia.

However! If anyone wants to put all of them back, there's an interlanguage link template that leaves a redlink but turns the language abbreviation blue:

{{interlanguage link|Article Title|language abbreviation}}

If you use that template & fill in "Tomas Fujiwara" and "de," you get Tomas Fujiwara [de], rather than de:Tomas Fujiwara––takes a little longer, but good for inline article use as it gives a link without confusing the reader.

I'm not redoing all of them like this––I've left as many redlinks as I'm comfy with, & already spent a silly amount of time writing this explanation––but if anyone wants to put any back in, here's a list of what the article had before my last edit (sorry if I missed any!): de:Nick Mazzarella, fr:Claudia Solal, de:Jason Roebke, de:Tomas Fujiwara, it:Silvia Bolognesi, de:Christoph Erb, de:Keefe Jackson, de:Bernard Santacruz, de:Relative Pitch Records, de:Jason Ajemian, de:Junius Paul.

Also also! I recommend checking to see if any of them aren't already included on Wiki User Chubbles' Missing American music page; it's a great resource, as it tracks subjects included only in non-English (mostly German) wikis & gives people a heads up about articles that just take an auto-translate to give some easy article-start copy.

Hope that was wordy enough... // Knifegames (talk) 18:28, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Knifegames: Tx for recommending the Missing American music page", with which I am unfamiliar. I'll investigate. Acwilson9 (talk) 03:21, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Knifegames: Yup, those German jazz-musician artcles are unfortunately not as rigorous as one might wish. Tx for all that you do Acwilson9 (talk) 21:55, 21 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Acwilson9 Yeah, having spent more time looking at those, "not as rigorous as one might wish" is a very generous way of putting it, ha! Knifegames (talk) 10:06, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Misc. data

[edit]

Per whitepages.com, Reid's middle name is "Summers". But, a better confirming source is needed before "Summers" can go into the article's text. (I've seen lots of typos and other errors in whitepages.com.) Acwilson9 (talk) 19:11, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
