Excess trivia

[edit]

I removed two trivia items that I just added because they seemed to me to be a bit too trivial for this article, but they're here for research purposes and for reinclusion if others disagree.

  • Saffron claims that Durran Haymer was an Alliance bioexpert whose wealth came from massacring and looting wealthy neighborhoods, likely giving Mal and the crew additional motivation to pull off the heist.
  • Bellerophon Estates is a wealthy community of individual estates floating in the sky above an ocean, but the planet itself has at least one desert area.

I also removed the assertion that the trash containers ran Windows 2000. I found no evidence in any of the scenes that involved the containers, the trash chutes, or even the heist plans, that would suggest this. (Even if there is evidence that Win2k was used for the props, it would be more accurate to say that the displays look remarkably like Win2k, given the unsourced (and unlikely) supposition that the worlds of the Firefly universe are still using an operating system from Earth-That-Was.) If anyone disagrees, please make your case here. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 06:44, 14 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Actually there is evidence, check this: [1]. But still you're right... that was most certainly either an in-joke or a necessity (maybe they didn't have time or forgot to provide a cool new interface), so it wouldn't be true to say they still use Windows. It's quite obvious what it was, we all saw it. Some version of Windows. Forget production deadlines; they didn't need to show an operating system at all. Kaylee was changing out a circuit board. The trash bin didn't need a GUI. My guess is it was a nod of some kind to Windows or an inside joke. As for canon, sure, Windows couldn't power anything real high-powered, but a smart trash bin? Firefly came out around the time Microsoft introduced the whole "smart appliance" thing, Universal Plug-n-Play, so I think it's a nod to that. Even if it ain't, it's a cool find nonetheless. Cut this from Serenity film, but when we can work this into a Production section when we get to that:

  • When Mal is awoken by Inara, a scar is present on Mal's chest from where Crow stabbed him in the 'Train Job' episode. When Mal is seen naked at the beginning and end of the Firefly episode Trash, the scar is not seen.

Ariel

[edit]

I changed the link in the Trivia section to the episode rather than the planet, since that link will then let the readers know what happened to make Early start to follow them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JBK405 (talkcontribs) 16:25, 4 June 2006

That makes sense. I've tweaked your edit by surrounding the episode title with quotes per style practices, which also happens to make the distinction between episode and planet clearer. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 22:03, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I tweaked the sentence a bit, adding that Early had been on their trail since the Feds were notified. Just making it easier on people who haven't seen Ariel. JBK405 22:31, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Name of the Lassiter

[edit]

If that's how you spell it, anyway. This counts as trivia but is it possible that the name of it is a reference to John Lasseter who directed and co-wrote Toy Story, which Joss Whedon also helped write? DK 05:31, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Given the context, I think that is a much less likely source for the artifact. EVula // talk // // 05:40, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DVD subtitle mistake

[edit]

After Durran leaves the gallery, Mal calls Yolanda/Saffron "YoSaffBridge" which is a portmandu (or another type of concatenation) of all the different names he has known her by (Yolanda, Saffron, Bridget). In the Region 1 DVDs, the subtitle says he is speaking chinese (all chinese phrases have the subtitle [Chinese]).
