Lead Image
[edit]Present lead image is blurred (seems to have been taken from a moving vehicle) and has been taken from too far a range to show any part of the station properly (neither the image is complete - only part of the station is visible and the name is extremely blurred - I would be hard pressed to believe it is Turbhe). Hence it is being reverted and replaced with the station board.
Srikanth, if you still disagree with me then i request you to move the station board down together with the platform board.Superfast1111 (talk) 13:21, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
- You have done this before and you seem to be continuing to do so. You are merely pushing for your own image to be on the page. Let there be consensus first. You have uploaded tons of photos of station name boards and have pushed for them to be inserted as a lead image. I don't see any reason why the Turbhe station exterior should not be included. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 13:22, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
- I have no problem if a better quality image is uploaded. See the railway stations of Ahmedabad, New Delhi, Old Delhi, Churchgate etc. Who wouldn't like their image to be prominent. I do not believe that i am wrong if i wish so. If i am in doubt about which image could be better i ask other experienced editors like you for an impartial view rather than just change it so the pushing remark is not in good taste here.
But anyway i do not agree with you on this issue here, exterior is good if it is taken in the right way not from a moving car across the road with a bike and divider in the middle plus if the station name can be read it would be a plus. Superfast1111 (talk) 13:34, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
- You have admitted to pushing your images, before and just now, above this as well. I'm not the only user who feels so, others have felt so too. Anyway, I'll be in the vicinity this week, I'll upload anew image. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 15:57, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
As per WP:LEADIMAGE, Lead images should be images that are natural and appropriate visual representations of the topic; they not only should be illustrating the topic specifically, but should also be the type of image that is used for similar purposes in high-quality reference works. As such, an image of a "station board" is definitely not appropriate as lead image for an article about a railway station. Even though the overview image is not perfect, it still does a better job of representing the unique station structure of Turbhe. If a better quality image of the structure can be obtained then that would be ideal. Trinidade (talk) 16:50, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
- Will get a better image by this weekend. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 17:32, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
- Srikanth, I have not admitted to pushing anything except a perhaps a feeling of doing something that you like and feel passionate about and if some of it is appreciated by others then that's a bonus. I ask you for advise & help and you try to twist it around. Most of the articles including those Mumbai Suburban railway network did not have any images so if uploading them there causes discomfort then so be it. I sort of agree with Trinidade in that if you can get an image with a better angle then by all means move the stationboard down and put yours as the lead.
Trinidade, you have to admit that stationboards are an important part of the station especially since at times they do also list the elevation of the place but here's an interesting fact about them on the suburban railway network,Western Railway only has them between Borivali and Virar plus none of them list the elevation of the place as opposed to central railway where nearly all stations have them and on the main line most of them have elevation mentioned. Superfast1111 (talk) 17:46, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
- That Still does not address the concerns of WP:LEADIMAGE. Images cannot be a source of notability, so no point trying to show elevation of a station via an image of a station board. A board cannot represent a structure, especially in the case of Turbhe, which features a unique design commissioned by CIDCO and designed by Hafeez Contractor! That fact alone should suffice. Trinidade (talk) 18:00, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
You still should have waited for Srikanth to get his weekend image or until we resolved this issue. I have the above stated problems with the image not Hafeez Contractor. So pls undo the image minus the expansion.
On the other issue, if the station board says the elevation is xx.xx m then that data cannot be used to state the elevation of the station.Superfast1111 (talk) 18:17, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
- Let me voice my views here. I admit I am not a big fan of station boards being placed in the articles. I would like to see the images of stations rather than painted boards, simply because there can be more than one board in a station and this board has no significance whatsoever. Also, for example, In the article 'Gandhi', we all like to see a picture of Gandhi rather than his name typewritten in a piece of paper and photographed. I wonder why the person who takes so much effort going to various stations and taking pictures doesn't take pictures of stations!!! In short, I find the boards boring, clumsy, and insanely monotonous. But kudos to the efforts.--Challengethelimits (talk) 02:02, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hey CTL, i can only manage to take station boards because the trains only stop at platform for about 10 - 15 seconds and i do try to take station entrances whenever possible like at Kasara, Santacruz, Andheri, Khar, Bandra etc. It is difficult at times difficult to find spare time for photography for a variety of reasons like when you are unfortunately stuck in a group or if you are headed to places like Kasara, if you miss one train then you have to wait for more than an hour for the next one. At times the location of the entrance doesn't let you get a good angle but thanks for your honest opinion. I do really appreciate it.
But about this image and page, i don't mind a better station image replacing mine but atleast it should be a reasonably good one not a blurry one from across the road shot from a moving vehicle at a range which makes it impossible to read the station name clearly with all the extra elements of a divider and a motorcycle in it. That is what my objection to it is.Superfast1111 (talk) 14:44, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- The image is not as blurry as you claim it to be. It is reasonably good. It is difficult to get a good image of the area as there is no vantage point. I had to stand on the divider to get a good snap but there were too many vehicles coming in the way. @Challengethelimits: and @Trinidade:, I have snapped an image. Gimme a day or two and it'll be up on the Commons, along with another dozen images of various other things. Till then, Cheerio, --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 10:51, 18 October 2014 (UTC)
- Its ok Srikanth, it wouldn't be the first time i have been on the short end of things. I do agree with you that photography at times can be a real pain in the backside. There are just too many factors. By the way, the image you uploaded at Mumbai Central was superb, i have been meaning to take the same image for quite a while now but i always either wind up at the wrong time so i have the sun in the background making for an unclear shot, baggage and company also can derail a good photo shoot. I have to stand on the Dadar flyover at 6 pm in peak traffic to get this shot and to time it between vehicle passes, oh man it was indeed very difficult [1]. I totally understand the issues.Superfast1111 (talk) 14:49, 18 October 2014 (UTC)
- I never uploaded the image. It was on the commons, You had, as usual uploaded a lame image of the board, which I decided to replace. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 18:32, 18 October 2014 (UTC)
- Good job anyway !!! Superfast1111 (talk) 04:34, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
- Kudos Superfast! I really appreciate your effort in getting pictures of all stations across India. But remember, as others say, station boards alone do not add value to the article as they do not depict the structure as such, and they are not significant either (unless they are unique in any sense, e.g., being aesthetically carved ones or holding a record in themselves). If you do not have enough time to go out and take a snap of the entrance, just capture the platforms loaded with crowd that had just detrained or waiting to entrain, rather than focusing exclusively on a name board (say a long shot towards the longer end of the platform would ensure that one or two name boards are visible in the picture). That itself would show the significance of the station. If an image of an empty station could speak to its structural significance, an image of a crowded station would speak to the functional significance of the station. See, for example, this image of the Chennai Central railway station. This one, as I feel, is indeed a great addition to the article:
- Good job anyway !!! Superfast1111 (talk) 04:34, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
- Also remember, the nameboard images would help only when there is no other image of the station available. Once an appropriate image has been uploaded, the nameboard image should be removed to maintain the quality of the article. Thanks again for all the great effort. Keep rocking. :) Rasnaboy (talk) 10:22, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
- Well atleast some one liked them. Guess i'll just be happy with that. I'll say it again that if any of my image is tossed out and replaced with a superior image then that is fine. I think i thanked Rsrikanth05 on Mumbai Central railway station but the lead image here has serious issues which i have listed above. But i guess i wasn't convincing enough. Re: The image
[edit]Pinging: @Superfast1111: @Trinidade:, @Rasnaboy: and @Challengethelimits:
Sorry about the 'delay'. I did snap a good image. It took me a good two hours on the edge of a flyover trying not to get run over to get myself a good vantage point for this. However, like most amazing scenarios, my marvelous phone decided to turn on HDR and I did not notice it till much later.Good image == Bad picture. However, I will be in Navi Mumbai again soon. I plan to devote an entire Sunday to getting good photographs of all the stations from Airoli to Panvel [plus Vashi and Sanpada]. Exteriors. Interiors would be tricky with a camera as photography is technically not allowed. So, that's the status. Will upload all to Commons and ping on your talk pages when done. Thanks and regards, Happy editing. Your traveling editor, --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 19:19, 30 November 2014 (UTC)
- Hats off to you, Srikanth, for all the efforts. Wish we could join you. :) Rasnaboy (talk) 02:23, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- Pinging: @Superfast1111: @Trinidade:, @Rasnaboy: and @Challengethelimits:
I finally found out what was wrong with my memory card and managed to extract the images. I've now uploaded a new image. I hope you guys like it. :) --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 21:12, 8 May 2015 (UTC)
- Also, I hope it satisfies both the requirements that the structure as well as stationboard is visible. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 07:10, 9 May 2015 (UTC)
Hi Rsrikanth05, It's very good now. Nice click. :) --Challengethelimits (talk) 10:30, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you. :) --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 05:57, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
