non-mathematical sense of linear?
[edit]- The tool's axes of movement may be literally a straight line, or they may be along some set of curves or angles, but they are essentially linear (in the non mathematical sense).
What does this mean? What is the non-mathematical sense of linear? What is the author trying to say? Maybe it could be reworded to be clearer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.138.14.33 (talk) 11:46, 11 December 2018 (UTC)

[edit]Not convinced that this definition is entirely clear. Perhaps the focus should first be on turning as the process which removes material from a workpiece as it rotates on a lathe? Derek J Moore (talk) 15:13, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- To clarify further “ remove unneeded material” Derek J Moore (talk) 15:16, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
