Denmark - Sweden
[edit]Well according to all info from television stations Sweden is awarded a 0-3 win, Don't know how we should write it down in the score though... --chandler 20:01, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I was about to ask this. The game got called off in the 89th and I was unsure if the ref called time at 3-3 or if it was forfeited. I'll write a footnote or something Gaijin84 20:07, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- I'll leave the bare bones explanation until I get some more info and links available. Gaijin84 20:14, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- It looks like the table has been edited to award sweden the win and the three points. I think it might be best to hold off for confirmation from UEFA that this is what is happening before changing the table to reflect this. JieBie 21:51, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- True... take it back, or atleast put something like like a reference for Sweden and Denmarks points. --chandler 22:09, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- UEFA says the result isn't confirmed [1] [2]...I'd suggest not counting the game towards the table until there's an actual decision. Sam Vimes | Address me 22:46, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- I agree, the "3-0" score is only pure speculation until UEFA makes an decision. Chanheigeorge 23:58, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- The score is still TBC until the UEFA Disciplinary Committee make a decision. WATP (talk) • (contribs) 23:59, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
I still think this needs a footnote. It looks too messy having it like that. It was fine as it was, when I left it last night. Gaijin84 18:50, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- Right as it stands, the game was abandoned with the actual result TBD. Until we have receipt of the actual score, whether or not UEFA will allow the goalscorer to stand etc, I believe it should stay as it is, so long as the table isn't updated. (Basically what the UEFA website is doing.) I don't think the details of the event need to be put in the main score. Gaijin84 19:04, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- As of yet UEFA has NOT ruled a 3-0 to anyone. The game was abandoned and no score, points or anything were awarded. The information blerb on this is getting deleted, because its factually inaccurate and pointless. Until the results are made clear on Friday, any further details are invalid. Latvia - Spain (Villa goal)
[edit]Im just watching the replay now, and I don't think that Villa even touches the ball. Its a clear own goal. what do you think guys think? I know it says Villa on uefa.com but I still think it's wrong. :) CHANDLER 23:04, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- Villa's reaction after the goal was rather subdued to say the least. From the reverse angle, I think it went in off Zakreševskis. As it stands UEFA have given the goal to Villa, so I think it should stand unless it changes anytime soon. Gaijin84 14:35, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Danish goals in the abandoned Denmark-Sweden match
[edit]These goals appear to count in the top goal scorers' list. Is this correct? I think this article deserves a mention of this, since Sweden was awarded a 3-0 victory. It may thus be confusing if 6 goals from the match stand in the statistics, with no explanation about this. I could find anything about it on UEFA's site, except that the 6 goals are mentioned in the match statistics. Does anyone know of a UEFA statement about the goals standing, or perhaps have a reference to this in the rules or something? If so, either write it into the main article, please, or post it here and I'll incorporate it into the article myself.Lilac Soul 09:57, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
- I couldn't find anything in the competition regulations or the UEFA disiplinary regulations regarding whether or not the goals stand. The only real authority we have to go off is the UEFA website and they, like the article, count the goals towards a player's tally. We'll just have to keep it in line with that.
- On a more opinionated note, if we didn't have the website to refer to I would assume that the goals didn't stand. After all, the point of defaulting to a 0-3 score is that events during the match did not count. It's only a coincidence that 3 also happens to be the number of goals Sweden scored. On the other hand, it wasn't the players fault that the game was abandoned, and a scored goal is a scored goal, so could be added to a players personal tally.... Now I'm just talking in circles. Attendence
[edit]The capcity for Windsor park for domestic games is 20,332, however for internationals, part of the stadium cannot be used as it is not up to spec. In this article there are instances of Ireland home matches wih attendence greater than 14,500, therefore I think we should reference attendence, especially when the stated attendence excedes capacity by 40% The Fashion Icon 09:39, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
- The reference you keep adding is for a game where the attendance is reported as exactly 14,500. Why does that need a reference? - PeeJay 11:39, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
- I think the anomoly comes from media reporting attendence as a "capacity crowd", someone then checks the capacity for Windsor park, which is generally quoted as 20,332, (the domestic figure) and uses that (A not entirely unreasonable chain of thought). However the capcity changes and is between 14,500 and 20,332, depending if the match is domestic, European or International. I think citing a reputable source, such as the BBC with a fixed number will prevent this chain of thought, and will guarantee an accurate figure. The Fashion Icon 12:07, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
- Well add something to the Stadium article, than ppl wont have that "chain of thought". Chandlertalk 12:17, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
- Unfortunetly there are other sources out there, other than WP giving the capacity! My understanding is that it is not a simple one of three choices for the capacity, as the number of fire tenders parked beside the south stand is also used to define the capacity. I simply feel including references reinforcs the integrity of the article! The Fashion Icon 12:58, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

"Fun" info about Icelands needs to qualify
[edit]I've been counting and I've come to this conclusion.
For Iceland to qualify, they have to win all their coming matches, they will than get 17 points.
Which is the same point that Denmark, Spain and Northern Ireland will have to (Now we're talking the best(only?) scenario for Iceland to go through.).
Now Spain and N.Ireland are on 16 points Now, so they will have to Lose all their matches, except the one between themselfs.
That game have to be a draw or one of the teams will go up over 17 points
(17p, Iceland's max possible points, Sweden is already over so they cant take Swedens place. This means, Iceland can only qualify WITH Sweden).
And if Spain and N.Ireland have to Lose all their games left except that one game. That means Denmark will have to beat both Spain and N.Ireland.
Denmark is now on 11 points, with the wins over Spain and N.Ireland they will have 17 points, so they too will have to lose all other matches
And as this is Iceland's scenario, Latvia ofc will win over Spain and Denmark, and lose to Sweden, Iceland and Liechtenstein. Not giving them 21 points but 12 points.
Now this leaves four teams at 17 points. And the tiebreaker rules than states
- Higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the teams in question.
So the matches played in between them will make a own "group". This group will look like this.
Team | Pts | Pld | W | D | L |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Iceland | 10 | 6 | 3 | 1 | 2 |
Denmark | 10 | 6 | 3 | 1 | 2 |
Spain | 8 | 6 | 2 | 2 | 2 |
Northern Ireland | 5 | 6 | 1 | 2 | 3 |
This ofc leaves Iceland and Denmark on the same points in this group too and we have to go to rule 2
- Superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams in question.
Now the goal difference counted is as goes.
Iceland has from Spain 1-2, N.Ireland 4-0(at least), Denmark 1-2(at least) total of 6-4 +2 (at worst)
Denmark has from Spain 2-2(at least), N.Ireland 1-0(at least), Iceland 2-1(at best) totalt of 5-3 +2 (at best, for Iceland)
This is if all matches not played between the teams end 1-0 or 0-1 (except for ESP-NIR).
And this would give Iceland the second place in Group F because of rule 3
- Higher number of goals scored in the group matches played among the teams in question.
So for Iceland to go through, all of these scenarios will have to come true, and Denmark can't score more goals than Iceland in the games in between ESP, NIR, DEN, ISL.
I think I've gotten everything right, if not, post the correction Chandlertalk 01:48, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
>> I just reviewed Iceland's situation myself, before reading this, and came to the exact same conclusion (though I didn't start to look at the goal difference). Obviously a LOT of games have to go their way, but it's interesting to see the requirements =P (This was my earlier post, forgot I had a wiki account. Lejman 19:35, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
yes, but aren't yu forgetting that spain and Denmark both have better head to heaf results than Iceland —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.104.125.55 (talk) 13:04, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Sweden's chances to qualify
[edit]Obviously Sweden can't qualify next round, but depending on how the games the 13th end, they may be able to qualify the 17th. These are the scenario's I've found out to work:
- Sweden defeats Liechtenstein and Northern Ireland and Denmark doesn't defeat both Spain and Latvia.
- Sweden defeats Liechtenstein and draws with Northern Ireland while Denmark loses to Latvia or draws with both Spain and Latvia.
- Sweden defeats Northern Ireland and draws with Liechtenstein while Denmark loses to either Spain or Latvia, or draws with both of them.
Lejman 03:00, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
Who qualifies?
[edit]If I've gotten things right... Sweden will only fail to qualify if
- Northern Ireland defeats Denmark and Sweden loses to Spain and Northern Ireland defeats Spain and Sweden loses to Latvia.
Spain will only fail to qualify if
- Spain loses to Northern Ireland and
- Denmark defeats Northern Ireland and Spain loses to Sweden and Denmark defeats Iceland, or
- Northern Ireland defeats Denmark and Spain loses to or draws with Sweden.
Northern Ireland will only qualify if:
- Northern Ireland defeats Denmark and Northern Ireland defeats Spain, and
- Sweden defeats or draws with Spain or
- Latvia defeats Sweden.
Denmark will only qualify if:
- Denmark defeats Northern Ireland and Sweden defeats Spain and Northern Ireland defeats Spain and Denmark defeats Iceland. (Note that Denmark can only qualify WITH Sweden.)
