Source of Name

This article claims the ship is named for a Lake Tahoe trout. As a former crewmember of USS Pogy and a long-time resident of northern California, I have never heard this nor have I ever heard anyone call a Tahoe trout a "pogy." Every source I have encountered over the last 25 years (including Wikipedia) says that pogy is another word for "menhaden," a fish found in the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico. There is no source given for the "trout" claim, and I am inclined to doubt its veracity. This claim should be documented or removed. Altgeld (talk) 15:45, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

According to the Dictionary of American Regional English (p.226)[1] "Pogy" was a name given to several species of fish, including the Atlantic menhaden (Brevoortia tyrannus) and the Red porgy (Pagrus pagrus), but also to the Lahontan cutthroat trout (Oncorhynchus clarki henshawi) - once very common, but extinct in Lake Tahoe since 1930. dawkeye (talk) 01:00, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Some clean up needed
