Verification needed

[edit]

There are several facts in the acticle that need verification.

  1. Westside Long Beach is a working class Long Beach neighborhood made up of mostly Latinos, Asians, and Blacks.
    • Census figures are needed. My guess is that Blacks and non-Latino Caucasians are probably about the same percentage for the Westside (But I could be wrong).
  2. The neighbor was once an affluent area populated mostly with Whites and Japenese.
    • The neighborhood might have been middle-class, pre-WW II, but I don't think that the neighborhood has ever been affluent. Area has always been working class - oil field and fishing industry predominately prior to WWII.
  3. Race riots at schools such as Cabrillo High School and Stephens Middle School occur frequently. incorrect.
    • Occasional possibly, but frequent?

Also, is no one going to mention that the West Side used to be the site of the Navy housing (where Cabrillo High is now) and is also the neighborhood that most closely adjoins the Port? And the Census figures provided are a bit too detailed. Just use the 90810 information!

I created this article orginally. How can an academic article be too detailed. The census information was accurate. 90810 zipcode also includeds portions of Carson which are not a apart of Long Beach. I have sources for the Japanese and it being affluent. Now though i just recommend this article be deleted it is no longer academic. This is the first time i've had an article i've done on wikipedia be edited for the worst and not imporved. Lastly Blacks are not equal to whites in population there are two census tracts on the west-side whrere they are the majority along with their being two majority asian sections. If you average out all the U.S. census tract information for West Long Beach which i orginally included in this article the average for the neighborhood is about 40% Latino 25% Black 25% Asian and the remaining 10% White and Pacific Islander.
