Title

[edit]

Why is this page called "1997 TV series" when it ran from 1996 onwards? 131.111.244.148 21:07, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article, and IMDb clearly state that it began in 1997. Do you have any evidence of it beginning in 1996? F W Nietzsche (talk) 13:39, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

genre?

[edit]

What kind of show was this? There is no explanation at all in this article. Is it a reality series? A comedy? A police drama? Tinkstar1985 06:13, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Synopsis

[edit]

Given there was almost no detail on what the show was actually about, I've added a (hopefully useful) synopsis of the plot and format. Smurfmeister (talk) 10:29, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Soap Opera?

[edit]

Should this really be in Category:British television soap operas? Although many of its stars were best known for soaps, its format does not really follow the normal British soap opera model (ie it was year round and had distinct series). Dunarc (talk) 20:02, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Cast list

[edit]

The cast list currently presents an issue with WP:OR. As @Skteosk: correctly stated there are many unsourced cast listings in this section. Since they are unsourced, surely adding further original research is not the correct option to improve things further. IMDB is a user generated website and using it as source is discouraged on Wikipedia. I would like the addition of each series they appeared in as it is useful to the general reader of this article. I only restored the simple cast list because the additions were not verified by a WP:RS. If we can find alternative sources, we should totally add them all.Rain the 1 11:18, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I realise I'm being lazy here (sourcing out the series for every cast member was difficult and time-consuming enough to start with) but it does seem to be a case of all or nothing: Either remove every unverified cast member or leave the full information despite it being unsourced. Or, as you say, find sources for them all. The question then becomes, what sources? I realise IMDb is unreliable but then so is just about any source on the internet: Even official sources can make mistakes. At a glance, it does seem as though IMDb for the series has been accurately compiled if that makes any difference. I'm not sure if there's any official guide to the series from which the information can be gathered. One simple, if time-consuming, method would be to simply enter the episode details of first and last appearances. The other possibility is if someone can source contemporary listings magazines (eg TV Times) which would likely contain details of new main cast members. Skteosk (talk) 22:41, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the information because it violated a core policy and that was the sole reason. Per WP:V/WP:BURDEN - "The burden to demonstrate verifiability lies with the editor who adds or restores material." I had already started to transform the article from an unsourced mess. I now feel obliged to find more. The first would be to source the cast which would be easy. Finding a source that mentions what series to appeared from and until will be more difficult. Sources are more likely to mentioned the year durations they appeared. The only way around is episode citations like you mentioned. As I did not add the information or restore it and have faced opposition, I cannot remove it again. I do not want to make the article unstable. I just hope no one decides to add anything further unsourced to the list.Rain the 1 09:11, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you're going to properly source the cast list, then fair play to you. I'm not sure how easy it would be but I would have thought that a source that mentions the year range would implicitly confirm what series they appear in, given that each series was confined to one calendar year and the TX dates are given (sourced) in the article. If you'd feel more comfortable presenting it as years rather than series, I would have no objection, although I think the seasons are more representative of how the show was transmitted.
