No need
[edit]There is no need to state that Mr. McWheeney was an "Irish-born" recipient of the Victoria Cross. Irish people were considered to be British (or West British) during the era in which he served. There would be nothing odd about an Irishman recieving the Victoria Cross during the Nineteenth Century when much of the British Army was composed of Irishmen.
Today only Ulstermen from Northern Ireland would receive a Victoria Cross for service to the Crown.
