Hello, I am planning on reviewing this article for GA Status, over the next couple of days. Thank you for nominating the article for GA status. I hope I will learn some new information, and that my feedback is helpful.

If nominators or editors could refrain from updating the particular section that I am updating until it is complete, I would appreciate it to remove a edit conflict. Please address concerns in the section that has been completed above (If I've raised concerns up to references, feel free to comment on things like the lede.)

I generally provide an overview of things I read through the article on a first glance. Then do a thorough sweep of the article after the feedback is addressed. After this, I will present the pass/failure. I may use strikethrough tags when concerns are met. Even if something is obvious why my concern is met, please leave a message as courtesy.

Best of luck! you can also use the {{done}} tag to state when something is addressed. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs)

Please let me know after the review is done, if you were happy with the review! Obviously this is regarding the article's quality, however, I want to be happy and civil to all, so let me know if I have done a good job, regardless of the article's outcome.

  • He served in the Wehrmacht - probably needs a bit of a better wording. Who did he serve? Without clicking the link, it's difficult to know what that is. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 20:30, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Might be an ESL-thing on my part, but I sort of presumed that "Wehrmacht" would be common usage and knowledge; changed to [[German Army (1935–1945)|Nazi Germany's army]]. --Blablubbs (talk) 12:05, 20 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • German writer - maybe describe him a little less generally - what type of writer? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 20:30, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • This is a little tricky because he did basically everything from journalism to children's literature. I moved the explanation from later in the lead; new wording is

Wolfdietrich Schnurre (22 August 1920 – 9 June 1989) was a German writer. Best known for his short stories, he also wrote tales, diaries, poems, radio plays, and children's books.

  • His other major works include Als Vaters Bart noch rot war [de] (When father's beard was still red) and Als Vater sich den Bart abnahm (When father shaved his beard off), two collections of politically-charged short stories focusing on the experiences of the narrator and his father during the early 20th century in lower-class Berlin; Der Schattenfotograf (The shadow photographer), a collection of various texts, and Ein Unglücksfall (A misfortune, An accident), his only novel. - this is a long sentence, and doesn't really explain what each piece is. "his only novel" preceded by a series of names, reorder as appropriate Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 20:30, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Reworded to make it a little less awkward:

Guilt, rememberance and war experiences are central themes in all of his major works; short story collections Als Vaters Bart noch rot war [de] (When father's beard was still red) and Als Vater sich den Bart abnahm (When father shaved his beard off) recount the experiences of the narrator and his father in lower-class Berlin during the period of the rise of Nazism, while his sole novel, Ein Unglücksfall (A misfortune, An accident) explores themes of guilt and responsibility surrounding the persecution of Jews under Nazi rule. Among his other major works is Der Schattenfotograf (The shadow photographer), a discontiguous collection of various texts.

  • Schnurre married twice and had two children - not really ledeworthyBest Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 20:30, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • He is buried in Waldfriedhof Zehlendorf in Berlin.[1 - nor is this. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 20:30, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • lower- to lower-middle-class social environment. - is there a better wording than this? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 20:34, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • I know it's somewhat awkward, but there is not really a wording I can think of that doesn't lack precision. Sources generally use wording like this; my worry is that "lower-middle class" would take away the sense that it was a "proletarian" upbringing, which is a fairly important factor in his biography, while "lower class" would be somewhat disingenuous given that his father ran a library and held a PhD. I can just stick to one or the other if you think it has to go, but I think it's more or less "justifiable" awkwardness(?). --Blablubbs (talk) 12:05, 20 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Schnurre served in the Wehrmacht from 1939 until 1945. - I'd also like a bit more explanation as to what this is. Also, you'll need to inline cite dates. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 20:34, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Dates now cited inline; changed the wording and link target to Schnurre served in the [[German Army (1935–1945)|army of Nazi Germany]] from 1939 until 1945.
  • During his six-and-a-half year service in the Wehrmacht, - fluff, we've given the dates Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 20:34, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
