Former state ?
[edit]Jotvingiai have never formed a state like formation, hence the infobox is rather dubious.--Lokyz (talk) 16:30, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
- pre-Nation State, using the definition from Nation State. The Yotvingian leaders did have control over their physical territory, they did wage coordinated wars against their neighbors (PL:Battle of Brańsk being one example) and did sign treaties with their neighbors. Ajh1492 (talk) 01:52, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
- In the Treaty of 944 between Kievan prince Igor and the Byzantine Empire, there are names of many Rus' ambassadors - one of which was Jatviag Gunarev. The Norse presence is indicated by a majority of the names found in the text. It is also the first written documentation of the term Jatviag, or Yatviag. The omission of this, and substitution of other denigrating details clearly suggests a POV about non-Christians. Sudowite (talk) 14:48, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
