Athletic Bilbao signing policy
[edit]- ... that since 1912, Spanish association football club Athletic Bilbao only fields players with ancestry from the Basque Country?

- The lead states that "the club will only sign players born in the Basque Country or with Basque parentage", but later in the article it states that this has been extended to great-grandparents so perhaps "Basque descent" or "Basque origin" would be more accurate. The hook should also relfect this for accuracy. Some citation issues elsewhere – ref 2 in the article is self-published, unless this is a reproduction of an article published elsewhere it is not a reliable source. Also I can't see where ref 5 says that the club was founded by Englishmen. Ref 7 does not appear to support either of the claims cited to it, ref 10 does not appear to support the part about Basque nationalism. Otherwise, the article meets newness and length requirements with no paraphrasing issues, QPQ is done.
- @January: I have added another source for 7 and 10. I have also amended the hook in line with the suggestion. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 07:29, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
- The additional sources added still do not fully support the claims. I still don't see any mention of John Aldridge in ref 7, or a of the club's constitution in refs 6/7, or Basque nationalism in refs 10/11 - 11 seems to contradict the claim ("While Athletic have never been associated with the fringe elements of the separatist movement, their away kit has the same colors as the Basque flag" ... "They're not an overtly political team"). The issues with refs 2 and 5 still need to be addressed. January (talk) 09:08, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
- Note, it says "fringe elements of the separatist movement" ie. ETA. The way that is worded states it is involved, but not to the extremes. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 21:35, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
- I understand your point, I can see how the source could be interpreted as implying that, but it doesn't say it. Connecting a football team to a political movement is quite a strong claim and I think strong sourcing would be needed for this claim. January (talk) 22:55, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
- @January: I have added a new source that supports the status as a symbol of Basque nationalism. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 08:19, 19 September 2016 (UTC)
Please could you provide the relevant quotes from the source as it is offline? January (talk) 16:36, 19 September 2016 (UTC)I've found it in Google books [1] however the page indicated does not discuss either the signing policy or the away kit so it cannot be used to cite the specific claims made in the article. - I'm a little busy today, i'll try to do it tomorrow. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 08:53, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
- @January: Just realised I got the source page wrong. The correct page clearly links the policy to Basque nationalism. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 20:29, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
- OK, but we still need a new source for the part about the away kit and the other citation issues I raised earlier. January (talk) 12:34, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
- @January: I have removed the kit and sorted the rest. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 08:04, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
- The issue with ref 7 not confirming the part about John Aldridge and refs 6/7 not not confirming the part about the club's constitution do not appear to have been addressed. January (talk) 21:14, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
- @January: I have done it now. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 20:53, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
- You need an inline citation for the 1912 date that is mentioned in the hook. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:15, 1 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Cwmhiraeth: I have moved a source that confirms it inline. Would you be able to restore the tick please? The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 07:37, 1 October 2016 (UTC)
- Restoring tick now that action has been taken on that point. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 08:23, 1 October 2016 (UTC)
