- Hi CAPTAIN MEDUSA, review follows: article created 16 November; article exceeds minimum length; I gave the article a bit of a tidy up, please feel free to revert any changes you don't agree with; article is cited inline throughout to what look to be reliable sources; there's a few lengthy quotes but these are properly attributed, I found no excessively close paraphrasing of the sources; hook fact is interesting, mentioned in the article and backed up by the source; article needs an incoming link or two and a QPQ is required, other than that looks good to me - Dumelow (talk) 10:05, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
- Dumelow QPQ has been completed. Thanks for the review and tidying up the article. ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 17:05, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks CAPTAIN MEDUSA, any chance of linking it from another article? - Dumelow (talk) 17:07, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
- It struck me as quite early for a highway tunnel in this remote part of the world. If the consensus is against it perhaps a hook can be made out of it being blocked during the insurgency or damaged by the 2015 earthquake. Happy to review any alternative hooks - Dumelow (talk) 08:53, 20 December 2019 (UTC)

... that the Churia Tunnel, constructed in 1917, was Nepal's first highway tunnel?--evrik (talk) 19:31, 23 December 2019 (UTC) - --evrik (talk) 19:32, 23 December 2019 (UTC)
- Seems to me you have a better hook in the first paragraph of footnote 1, which states it was the first manmade tunnel in South Asia. Yoninah (talk) 19:44, 23 December 2019 (UTC)
- I saw that, but really ... all of South Asia? --evrik (talk) 20:16, 23 December 2019 (UTC)
- That claim is incorrect, there's seven tunnels at List of rail tunnels in India by length built between 1900 to 1916 for example. Potentially it could be the first highway tunnel in South Asia but that's not what the source says - Dumelow (talk) 21:29, 23 December 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, this tunnel was not the first in South Asia. Even our Prime Minister KP Oli has forgotten about this; he claims that he will build "the country's first-ever tunnel" in 2019, called Nagdhunga-Sisne Khola Tunnel . There are several tunnels built way back i.e. Khojak Tunnel (1891). ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 11:56, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- OK. But I keep looking at the article and trying to figure out a better hook. The image is very good; the hook needs to be good too. How about:

- ALT2: ... that Nepal's first highway tunnel (pictured) was constructed by the country's first civil engineering graduate? Yoninah (talk) 15:47, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- Evrik and Dumelow your thoughts? ALT2 is much hookier than other hooks, Thanks. ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 16:17, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- Works for me. The article says "first civil engineering graduate" I will AGF that the article creater has interpreted correctly that thus is what the Nepal Spotlight is trying to say here: "But for Daly Jung Thapa, who was the first full-time Nepali student to pass the academic civil engineering from Thompson College of Engineers, Roorkee, in 1911. He was nominated as Ghar Kaj and Sadak Kaj Chief when he took the project to construct the Tunnel . He had set up the camp at the Churia range and loved to stay at the camp for months to accomplish his dream to link Kathmandu with Terai." (maybe it is clearer in another language version of the source?) - Dumelow (talk) 11:10, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
- Okay by me. --evrik (talk) 03:02, 28 December 2019 (UTC)
- Rana, Chanda (2019-11-12). "Churia Tunnel Is First Tunnel of Nepal". Spotlight Nepal. Retrieved 2019-11-16.
- Just a heads up: The spotlight piece is written by Chanda Rana, Thapa's grand daughter. She may or may not be an expert in history, she may or may not be basing all of it on first hand accounts from her grandfather that she read/heard. She also seems to be on a mission to preserve/protect and promote her grandfather's memory and heritages associated with him. In this piece, she says her grandfather rebuilt infrastructure previously built by "two genuine engineers" of Nepal which could, in the context, mean that her grandfather was not a genuine engineer. She's labelled her grandfather a "pioneer engineer" in that one. So, Thapa was only "the first full-time Nepali student to pass the academic civil engineering from Thompson College of Engineers, Roorkee" even if we are to take his granddaughter's words for it. It could mean he was the first full-timer or that he was the first to graduate from that particular college. Usedtobecool ☎️ 09:54, 30 December 2019 (UTC)

- I've removed the potentially troubling reference. The Kathmandu Post article actually states "A statue of Dillijung Thapa, the first civil engineering graduate of Nepal and the tunnel designer, will also be constructed at the tunnel site." so can be used to back up this part of the hook - Dumelow (talk) 08:40, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
