Cornel Țăranu

Created by Gerda Arendt (talk). Self-nominated at 17:30, 25 June 2023 (UTC). Post-promotion hook changes for this nom will be logged at Template talk:Did you know nominations/Cornel Țăranu; consider watching this nomination, if it is successful, until the hook appears on the Main Page.

  • Comment: I took the liberty of expanding the article and adding references which detail this and other facts; this incidentally makes it possible to have more interesting hook, which I propose as the ALT1 (I'm omitting the lengthy descriptors of Țăranu, which are probably overkill here):

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
  • Cited: Yes - Offline/paywalled citation accepted in good faith
  • Interesting: Yes
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Alt 1 hook looks better to me, would be nice to have a supporting translated quote from the hook's source; also maybe add picture? Crum375 (talk) 12:28, 5 July 2023 (UTC)

  • The quote was in there, but I have reviewed it and incidentally it needed a tweak -- Enescu had said the same, but formulated a bit differently than in my hasty reading (tweaked translation and added original); Vartolomei is, of course, the secondary source validating that Țăranu's approach was controversial. Do you mean that we should quote her take as well, Crum375? I added a picture to the article, the only one in the PD that I could locate in my sources and is not very poorly printed. I'm not sure its quality is good enough to make it featured on the main page, but I suppose we could try. Gerda Arendt: what say you? Dahn (talk) 15:56, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
  • @Dahn: I am not sure what Vartolomei says, since I don't have the source, but if she makes it clear that Enescu did not want those works published, it would be helpful for the hook, imo. Enescu himself in the quote only says he's never done it, not that he didn't want it done, e.g. posthumously. Crum375 (talk) 16:06, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
  • Actually, I guess the hook doesn't actually say he didn't want it done, only that he didn't wish to do it, leaving it open for someone else. Still any clarification from the secondary source would help. Crum375 (talk) 16:16, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
  • @Crum375: Added a quote from the secondary source (indeed, it is more firmly worded than our hook -- Vartolomei reads it is an explicit denial of Enescu's wish, we merely note that Enescu didn't want the works published). Dahn (talk) 16:19, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
  • @Dahn: Yes, I think this is better, since as a tertiary source we defer to (reliable) secondary sources for interpretation of ambiguous points, and as you say, the hook's wording is covered in any case. Crum375 (talk) 16:52, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
  • @Crum375: I absolutely agree. Dahn (talk) 17:24, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
  • Just noting that I fixed my name mixup above, now ok. Crum375 (talk) 13:29, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
