James Dunn (actor)
- ... that five years after the major film studios branded him as "unemployable", James Dunn (pictured) was cast as the dreamy alcoholic father in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and won an Academy Award? Source: "As his career began to wane in the 1940s, Dunn achieved a reputation as an irresponsible performer–partly earned by his drinking–and was considered unemployable by the studios." (Associated Press); "Dunn's performance as the drunken father in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn in 1945 won him an Oscar for best supporting actor and marked the end of a five-year period in which he had not faced a camera." (San Bernadino Sun)
- ALT1:
... that Shirley Temple made her first three films with Fox Film star James Dunn (both pictured)?Source: "Dunn was a song-and-dance man who was signed by Fox Films in 1931, and appeared with Shirley Temple in her first three films." (A Moon for the Misbegotten on the American Stage); "In 1931, Dunn plummeted into the Hollywood firmament with his first picture and within a year was one of the top 10 box office draws" (Associated Press)

- Comment: ALT0 goes with image of Dunn as Johnny Nolan; ALT1 goes with image of Dunn and Temple.

Overall: Recent GA review so it easily passes any citation, plagiarism, neutrality, and sourcing qualifications. I approve ALT0 as it is more interesting and ALT1 sounds mores like a Shirley Temple dyk. 21:23 18 May 2020 (UTC) Jon698 talk
- Thanks for the review. I'll remove ALT1 and the second image so there won't be any confusion. Yoninah (talk) 21:47, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
- Note to Jon698: we've had reviewed GAs that have nevertheless had all of those problems (some of which ended up being delisted), so the DYK review should always recheck everything. This particular GA review was done by a new-to-GA reviewer who did six quick passes in a single day with minimal comments, so I hope you did a thorough check here to make up for it. (Indeed, we don't allow the GA reviewer to also review the subsequent DYK nomination to make sure of that separate check.) Not that I expect any problems from a Yoninah submission, but the checks should always be made. Thanks for reviewing! BlueMoonset (talk) 04:53, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, BlueMoonset. I was wondering why that GA reviewer didn't make me turn somersaults like most of my GA reviewers do. Yoninah (talk) 10:51, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- I've prepared a crop for the DYK. Yoninah, any reason to use the original or is the crop fine? The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 03:30, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

- @The Squirrel Conspiracy: the crop's great, and I really appreciate it. I've downloaded similar press photos for a few other film articles and I'm wondering if you'd be up to cropping them too? No rush, of course. Yoninah (talk) 15:01, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
