José González Valencia
[edit]... that suspected Mexican drug lord José González Valencia was granted residency in Bolivia and vacationed in Brazil while using a fake name?
Spanish: "González vivía en Bolivia con el nombre falso de Jafett Arias Becerra al parecer desde principios de año. Solicitó residencia en Bolivia y la obtuvo por dos años, explicó el ministro de Gobierno Carlos Romero." / English: "González lived in Bolivia under the false name of Jafett Arias Becerra apparently since the beginning of the year. He applied for residency in Bolivia and obtained it for two years, explained the Minister of Government Carlos Romero." / English: "José González Valencia entered Brazil as a tourist using a Bolivian passport ... The defendant carried a document issued by Bolivia and in which he identified himself as a Mexican citizen but with the false name of Jefett Arias Becerra." (Infobae)

- Comment: Most sources are in Spanish and Portuguese. Alternate hooks are welcomed.

- @MX: I think a new hook needs to be proposed here since it's not exactly uncommon for suspects to go incognito under aliases. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 07:11, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5: Thank you for the review. Yes, aliases are common among criminals that want to go incognito. But being granted legal residence in a foreign country? This was huge news in Bolivia because of that. MX (✉ • ✎) 13:10, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5: Please let me know what you think of this alt hook. MX (✉ • ✎) 13:23, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
- ALT1:
that suspected Mexican drug lord José González Valencia owned a passport with a fake name that had all the security features needed to travel internationally? / English: "[His passport] had all the international security measures and with which it processed the temporary stays in Bolivia and obtained the Foreign Identity Card as established by the current immigration regulations," the statement said." (La Razón)
- Not sure about that either, aren't security features a given in passports? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 01:27, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5: Um, yes. I guess I'm not being clear. What I'm trying to convey is that José González Valencia was able to LEGALLY obtain residence in Bolivia with a fake alias, and LEGALLY obtain a passport with a fake alias. That is extremely difficult to do, which is why his case garnered a lot of attention. Doing it requires a combination of government incompetence and/or corruption. I'm out of ideas for a hook / don't know how to rephrase them better, so any help at this point is appreciated. MX (✉ • ✎) 01:42, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
- ALT2:
that suspected Mexican drug lord José González Valencia was granted a government-issued Bolivian ID card with a fake name?
- @Narutolovehinata5: Running out of ideas, but still trying. What about this one? MX (✉ • ✎) 23:14, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
- I think MX's hooks are good; they just need a bit of tweaking:
- ALT0a: ... that Mexican suspected drug lord José González Valencia was granted legal residency in Bolivia and vacationed in Brazil using a fake name?
- ALT1a: ... that Mexican suspected drug lord José González Valencia possessed an official passport that had all the security features needed to travel internationally, issued under a fake name?
- ALT2: ... that Mexican suspected drug lord José González Valencia was granted a government-issued Bolivian ID card under a fake name?
- I like ALT1a the best. Yoninah (talk) 23:05, 12 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: Hello. Thank you for your copyedits and hook tweaks. I have no preference for each of the hooks proposed. BTW, I changed up "suspected Mexican drug lord" to "Mexican suspected drug lord". From what I've been told here before, it seems like this is the correct way of phrasing it (but I'm not entirely sure). Cheers, MX (✉ • ✎) 13:34, 13 September 2018 (UTC)
- OK. Here is a full review: New enough, long enough, neutrally written, well referenced. No close paraphrasing seen in English-language sources. Foreign-language hook refs AGF and cited inline. Image is fair use. QPQ done. All the "a" hooks are fine; my preference is for ALT1a. Good to go. Yoninah (talk) 18:31, 13 September 2018 (UTC)
