List of colleges and universities in Washington, D.C.
[edit]- ... that Georgetown University (Healy Hall pictured) is the oldest post-secondary institution in Washington, D.C.?

- Comment: As always, I am open to suggestions for alternative hooks, as mine are never quite "hooky" enough! -- Caponer (talk) 14:14, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

- Article prose expanded eleven-fold on day of nomination
- Long enough - "2731 characters (379 words) of readable prose"
- Within policy – neutral, plenty of sources with at least one inline citation in each paragraph after the first one, appears to be free of close paraphrasing issues
- Hook is 104 characters, formatted properly, in the article and interesting
- → Unfortunately the citation for the hook is from the Georgetown website (so arguably a biased opinion) but it doesn't say "oldest in Washington". A quick Google search reveals only two books which could support the hook: Frommer's Washington, D.C. by Elise H. Ford (but I'm not sure if it could be counted as a reliable source) and Washington, D.C.: A Pictorial Celebration by Jeanne Fogle.

- Image is used in article, is free and shows up well at small size
- Overall a well written article, certainly a massive improvement on the pre-expansion version. If you struggle with the current hook, I would suggest this as a possiblity:
- ALT1 ... that the University of the District of Columbia is the only land-grant university in Washington, D.C.?
- There are two other possible ALTs, if you can find sources to support them; that Washington Theological Union is the city's smallest ... or ... that the University of the District of Columbia is the largest public university. I will wait to see what you think. Green Giant (talk) 01:26, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
- Green Giant, thank you for taking the time to review List of colleges and universities in Washington, D.C. To address your concern, I added the Fogle source to support the assertion that Georgetown University is the oldest institution of higher learning in the District. The Fogle source (which is well-researched) addresses this, and the Georgetown source addresses the founding year of 1789 in the sentence. The alternative hooks regarding enrollment size utilize data provided by the United States Department of Education Institute of Education Sciences. I'd like to stick with the original nominated hook. Thank you again for your thorough and thoughtful review! -- Caponer (talk) 22:28, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
- I'm happy with the changes made and happy to go with the original hook. → Green Giant Talk 22:52, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
