Mary A. Monroe

[edit]

  • New, in time, long enough, sourced, inline hook citations check out, no apparent copyvios, QPQ done. Jwrosenzweig, could you think of some more hooks? However impressive being the first woman to serve in those roles is, it lacks meaning—and thus interest as a hook—when the organizations themselves, and their importance, require explanation. Few people will knows what the Washington Education Association and the State Normal School are; the former didn't even have an article until you created one. --Usernameunique (talk) 01:28, 31 March 2018 (UTC)
    • Thanks for the review....I'm a little stumped for hooks. If her being the first woman president of a statewide teachers' union or the first woman trustee for what is now a medium-sized regional public university are not sufficiently notable as hooks, I'm not really sure what would be relevant. I mean, she chased off a house burglar and she saw her local elementary school through rebuilding projects after two catastrophic fires, but it's hard to say why anyone would care about that if they don't care about her trailblazing work as a woman educator. I get that the WEA might not be a good hook since we (appallingly) have nothing about it but a stub I produced when I realized we had nothing at all. What if we relink it as Eastern Washington University in the ALT1 -- would piping the link like that seem more appealing? Jwrosenzweig (talk) 19:47, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
      • Sorry, we don't need to pipe that link -- the link was already piped. So I guess I'm just suggesting that we call it Eastern Washington University in the hook. Would that help you at all? Jwrosenzweig (talk) 19:49, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
  • ALT2: ... that Mary A. Monroe's first teaching job in Spokane, Washington, was in a school without running water, to which staff and students "waded through snow, mud, and water in rubber boots"? Yoninah (talk) 00:09, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
    • If Yoninah's suggestion (thanks, Yoninah!) is preferable to the ALT1 hook about her being the first woman trustee at Eastern Washington University, I'm certainly happy with it. If not, it would be great to get a reaction from Usernameunique, or someone else who can complete the review -- thank you! Jwrosenzweig (talk) 15:31, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
  • ALT2 checks out with an inline citation and is interesting. --Usernameunique (talk) 17:37, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
