Test with less obvious taxa
I wondered how the template works with Mollusca, and then realised that Linneaus named the whole of that tree. Perhaps the template should be tested with taxa that have various authorities, e.g. Entoprocta, Bryozoa and Chelicerata. --Philcha (talk) 01:14, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
- Would Lingulella fall into that category? Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 14:03, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
- Looks. It is that the genus with an extant member called "an living fossil". If so, might be good for DYK. --Philcha (talk) 16:30, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
Extra space?
When combined with {{italic title}} at the top of the page, this arrangement:
{{italic title}} {{Automatic taxobox...
but not this arrangement:
{{italic title}}{{Automatic taxobox...
creates extra space above the text and taxobox. See here:
Is there an easy fix? I assume it's not a problem with {{italic title}} since I haven't seen it on any pages with the regular {{Taxobox}}. Rkitko (talk) 01:01, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
- The easiest fix is not to use the redundant template "Italic title" in conjunction with a taxobox that already italicises the title... I'll see if there's anything else that I can do though. Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 23:27, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
- Some editors have taken it upon themselves to add {{italic title}} indiscriminately to articles that don't even need it, arguing that it's easier for new editors to understand what is making the page title italicized. I could just remove it, but with its widespread usage in that form and usually in the first format above, it might be easier to just make this template not produce the space (if that's indeed the issue). Rkitko (talk) 23:47, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
- It's not clear why the space is being produced; if anyone has any ideas... please dive in or let me know... Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 00:19, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for giving it a try. I really appreciate your hard work on this automatic template business! Cheers, Rkitko (talk) 00:40, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

Request: Clade
Is it possible to incorporate displayed_clade
in place of displayed_unranked
? We at WP:PLANTS bemoaned the complexity of making the current taxobox work for us, using clades instead of "unranked" for the APG III system taxonomy, e.g. in Levenhookia chippendalei, all three "unranked" clades should ideally just read "clade" since they do have rank relative to each other; "unranked" is not necessarily accurate. Rkitko (talk) 01:22, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
- On the other hand, uranked taxa are not only clades, but also informal groups, as it is used in the taxonomy of all gastropods. (See any gastropod or for example Helix pomatia article, current version [1]). --Snek01 (talk) 09:54, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
- Forced display is now via the
|always_display=
parameter, and I see that the above has been fixed. Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 16:10, 24 September 2010 (UTC) - {{resolved}}

- Thanks for the report and informative edit summaries. I've amended the template so that it can handle Sepia (genus) and re-implemented it; please do re-revert if there are further issues. (And very sorry to accidentally undo your edits last time I restored the atb!)
- The handling of multiple authorities at Stauroteuthis is a bit tricker to resolve; I'll have to scratch my head a little on that one. Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 15:56, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Amniota
There's a problem with {{Taxonomy/Amniota}}. I believe it lies in the rank parameter. I tried "unranked" and "clade", and neither would allow the taxobox at Abronia (animal) to properly display the higher taxa. Bob the Wikipedian (talk • contribs) 23:55, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
- It works now; I suspect that the problem reported in Template_talk:Automatic_taxobox#Truncated_taxoboxes_without_any_apparent_reason had the same cause. Thanks for all your testing! Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 22:42, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
- Pleasure's mine! Thanks for your hard work debugging! I see several problems reported have been fixed! Bob the Wikipedian (talk • contribs) 02:21, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
Bacteria
{{Automatic taxobox |name = Actinobacteria |taxon = Actinobacteria | authority = Margulisová, 1974 }}
I attempted creating {{Taxonomy/Bacteria}} the same as {{Taxonomy/Eukaryota}}, but this is what happens: Bob the Wikipedian (talk • contribs) 00:30, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
- Is the intended result for "Bacteria" to appear on all bacteria pages? If so, use
|always_display=true
at {{Taxonomy/Bacteria}}. Domains don't display by default, to avoid clutter. Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 21:07, 4 October 2010 (UTC)- Hmmmm....that's not fixing it.... There's still the red border and Bacteria still doesn't display. Bob the Wikipedian (talk • contribs) 02:10, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
- I've fixed the colouration by modifying {{Is reg}}. The failure to display is intriguing... I'm on the case. Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 02:43, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

- There were two possible solutions; the one less likely to cause confusion in the future is to add "parent=Life" to Template:Taxonomy/Bacteria so went with that one. In case the other fix is handy later down the line, I'll link it here. Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 03:06, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
Binomial
See the this reversion. Apparently the other format is preferred for displaying a binomial. Can we get this changed? Bob the Wikipedian (talk • contribs) 00:35, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
- Ah, figured it out, by using the binomial_name and binomial_authority it appears to work. Bob the Wikipedian (talk • contribs) 00:41, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
- But it looks like it doesn't display the species with the abbreviation instead of the full name. That needs fixed. Bob the Wikipedian (talk • contribs) 17:13, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
- Fixed (like this). Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 22:01, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Truncated taxoboxes without any apparent reason
I tried to do an autotaxobox for Adapiformes:

I'd call this yet another one of the many bugs I've found in this template tonight. I think I'm done playing with it tonight. Bob the Wikipedian (talk • contribs) 02:01, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
- There are oodles of unranked nested clades named for the theria; more than I Template:Taxobox/taxonomy and Template:Get regnum (essentially hard-coded loops) could handle. I've added more. (More may be necessary when you reach the species level in this clade...) Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 22:40, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hmmm....Might need another few...I just added Deuterostomia in between Nephrozoa and Chordata, and it appears Chordata was formerly linked to Animalia... Bob the Wikipedian (talk • contribs) 04:32, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
- Looks like the order Lepidoptera is another victim of the too-many-unranked's bug. Bob the Wikipedian (talk • contribs) 05:07, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
- Thinking the fix would be as simple as the previous time, I attempted to fix it, but somehow I made it worse and ended up reverting it. I better leave this issue alone and let someone else do it. Bob the Wikipedian (talk • contribs) 22:51, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
- After some closer analyzation (and a good night's sleep), I just realized this is an entirely different bug. No wonder my solution didn't solve it. (though I'm still unsure how it broke it). Anyway, I'll mark this as resolved so ClueBot can archive it, and I'll open a new discussion with the actual symptoms of this new bug. Bob the Wikipedian (talk • contribs) 15:43, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

How would we set a custom color? This box should be khaki-colored. Bob the Wikipedian (talk • contribs) 03:35, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
- I've not worked out how to support a custom colour, although I have a couple of things that I could try. Do all things that should be khaki belong to a single clade? Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 03:56, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
- It doesn't appear that way-- from the looks of it, Choanozoa, Choanoflagellata, and Choanomonada (no article, but a few existing articles ought to reference it, according to Species.WikiMedia.org) are the khaki ones. Bob the Wikipedian (talk • contribs) 04:11, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
- In a simpler answer, the khaki group is polyphyletic, but all contained within Opisthokonta, but this group also contains a few other colors, including the animals, the fungi, and the amoebas (didn't check for additional ones). Bob the Wikipedian (talk • contribs) 04:17, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

Section should not be italicized
{{automatic taxobox |taxon=Cossina |name=Cossina}}The section in this taxobox is italicized; it shouldn't be. Bob the Wikipedian (talk • contribs) 05:16, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hmm, for the zoological rank section, the taxobox parameter is "zoosectio" since the rank section in botany has already taken "sectio" and is italicized. I added the correct parameter at Template:Taxonomy/Cossina (section). Rkitko (talk) 22:30, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, but I noticed, the parameter "subsectio" should be italicized. You should also use "zoosubsectio" here. Rkitko (talk) 22:32, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
- Right, thanks. I'll fix the subsections I created. Bob the Wikipedian (talk • contribs) 22:37, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
