- It redirects here already, so I guess it wouldn't change anything. Gary King (talk · scripts) 01:49, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
- Also this would make it consistent with other similar templates, such as {{Twitter}} and {{Myspace}}. Mhiji (talk) 21:21, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

This template leads to spam links
I started a discussion at WT:External links#Spam links becoming standard practice that talks about spam links, including this template. — Timneu22 · talk 17:44, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
Icon
A change to include a "Facebook" icon in the template was recently added, then almost immediately undone due to a lack of "consensus" about the addition.
How can there be any consensus when this discussion page doesn't even contain a section about an icon?
I looked at "File:F icon.svg". It's fine. In general, Wikipedia pages lack color (i.e. they could use some color). My own opinion--the icon was a nice addition to the "Facebook" template.
My gratuitous opinion--Why will we be wasting time discussing the addition of an icon when nobody has yet solved the serious problem with the "Facebook" template that I first described on this discussion page in the section "Created link doesn't work" one month ago? ProResearcher (talk) 08:42, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- I agree, icon is nice, no need to remove it. I wanted to make it like that: ru:Википедия:Социальные сети, so we've got a consensus here, so that I return the icon back. BTW if you want it removed on copyright grounds, make it be removed from Commons first. --ssr (talk) 11:30, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- I don't agree that 2 editors make a consensus (see WP:Consensus for more information on it); I am going to raise the issue at the talk page for WP:Template to try to get a broader range of opinions. UnitedStatesian (talk) 14:21, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- The discussion is at Wikipedia talk:Template namespace#Facebook icon. UnitedStatesian (talk) 14:30, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- Strongly opposed to such a change. This would be drawing undue attention to an EL (and a template) thats already widely misused. It would also appear that we are promoting the site. We should neither promote the site nor make it seem like these links are acceptable in most biographies. Also, the Russian Wikipedia operates differently than the English Wikipedia and a consensus over there isn't binding here. The icon shouldn't be readded a consensus forms here. ThemFromSpace 02:10, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
- "the Russian Wikipedia operates differently" What a humbling experience if the Russian Wikipedia actually came up with a good idea before the English Wikipedia. (btw, who has a significant Space program now and who doesn't?) ProResearcher (talk) 03:36, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
Created link doesn't work
I tried to use this template without success for the following Facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Gabriel-Thomson-Official-Page/274075653106?v=info
Although I sought assistance through Wiki's "Live help", the offered suggestions also did not work.
In the end, I was forced to use a kludge that mimics the Wiki Facebook template:
==External links==
* [http://www.facebook.com/pages/Gabriel-Thomson-Official-Page/274075653106?v=info Gabriel Thomson] on [[Facebook]]
Can anybody tell me how to write the Wiki template correctly? (Test it first, please) ProResearcher (talk) 03:57, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
- The template only works for user content on Facebook, not for Facebook's content that is set up for commercial purposes in its "pages" section (or content in any other Facebook section, such as "groups") UnitedStatesian (talk) 23:09, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- You must be a lawyer or a politician, UnitedStatesian, because you are incredibly adept at writing pompous statements that lack any actual content. There is **nothing** in Gabriel Thomson's Facebook link per se that relates to commercial content or groups. The Wiki Facebook template simply does not work for this link. If you're not a good enough programmer to fix the template, then refrain from commenting on the problem. ProResearcher (talk) 02:50, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
- The '=' sign is a special character. Instead of using it directly, you need to use Template:=. The following code produces the result you want:
- {{Facebook|id=Gabriel-Thomson-Official-Page/274075653106?v{{=}}info|name=Gabriel Thomson}}
- Like this: Gabriel Thomson on Facebook --RL0919 (talk) 04:07, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
- I added this situation to the documentation to help other users avoid this problem in the future. --RL0919 (talk) 04:24, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

Problem with rendering of template
Hi. Could someone please have a look at External links section of AJ_Rafael and determine why {{Facebook|ajrafaelmusic|AJ Rafael}} renders as https://www.facebook.com/%C2%ADajrafaelmusic? If the %C2%AD bit is removed, the Facebook link works. Thanks. GFHandel ♬ 21:05, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
- Don't worry, I figured it out. There were some invisible characters in the ID section (which I've removed). GFHandel ♬ 21:18, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
How to add an official Facebook page for film
Hi. In adding a Facebook page for a film, the film title should be in italics, while the "on Facebook" part should not. And yet I cannot figure out how to do this -- I can only italicize the entire template, or none of it. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 01:33, 23 November 2014 (UTC)
Parameters
The template includes:
https://www.facebook.com/{{Trim|{{{1|people/{{{id}}}}}}}}
Why are we treating |1=
and |id=
differently? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:16, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
And, in fact, that doesn't work:
{{Facebook|shehnazsheikhpak}}
renders, on Shehnaz Sheikh, with a link to:
https://www.facebook.com/people/{{{id}}}
