I'd suggest the following syntax be adapted from infobox horseraces, particularly the "image" parameter. I also think that you can chop the "classes" parameter (particularly because a big show will have over 100...) but keep "divisions." JMO. Montanabw(talk) 22:15, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
{{Infobox horseraces | class = | horse race = | image = | caption = | location = | inaugurated = <!-- {{Start date|YYYY|MM|DD|df=y}} --> | last run = | race type = | sponsor = | website = | distance = | record = | surface = <!-- Turf / Dirt / Synthetic --> | track = <!-- Right-handed / Left-handed / Straight --> | qualification = | weight = | purse = | bonuses = }}
- I did try swapping "logo" for "image" but that made the image not appear. Some of the stuff I put in because people who are not necessarily horsey go to the shows just to watch and they'd probably want to know attendance numbers so they'd know how many people they have to wade through! I may play with some of it tomorrow if I get time and change some of the parameters. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 03:01, 25 November 2015 (UTC)
- I don't know a lot about infobox syntax, but I suggest just copypasting from an existing sporting event box (one with minimal flashy colors...) As for attendance, what's sad is how poor horse show attendance is these days, other than for a few really big events...but I see no harm including the parameter. - I've heard a lot of different theories about why attendance is so low; my own theories are that the animal rights people have brainwashed too many people into believing all show horses are tortured and that the liability laws are driving people away. I could have half the kids in the neighborhood over to see my horse if I wasn't worried about their parents suing me if one of them got their foot stepped on or something. The liability laws were designed to stop the stupid lawsuits, but they've just made them more prevalent. And the "all show horses are tortured" makes me want to trout-whack a couple of people too. Apparently, according to one YouTube poster whose video I am not even going to bother to link because of it's idiocy, all show horses are victims of trainers who only care about money and have so little regard for their horses that they actually put bits in their mouths. Yet this person's horses, standing out in a pasture with no barn, one covered up with bot eggs and the other with rope halter scars across its head, both with bare feet that looked like they had been trimmed with pinking shears, were loved so much she never used a bit on them or locked them up in a "prison". 😠 Gag. And just this morning I saw another idiot claiming that a major show horse who just died of colic was obviously abused, because colic is a sign of abuse. Evidently they never heard that colic is the number 1 killer of horses, abused or not. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 17:05, 30 November 2015 (UTC)

- It has nothing to do with animal rights stuff, IMHO - I live where PETA means "people eating tasty animals" and you can get people to show up at horse racing and rodeos (though attendance there is down too), but horse shoes, meh - I guess no spills or chills, not enough of an adrenalin rush for the new person...I don't know. I think the biggest thing is that people are getting farther and farther removed from the natural world; if you don't grow up around animals, you don't understand them... I see it as part of Nature deficit disorder. Montanabw(talk) 05:38, 6 December 2015 (UTC)
Location in userspace
[edit]Why don't you move this to the "Template" name space? Template:Infobox equestrian event is currently a redlink so I think it would be more appropriate for it to be there rather than in userspace. I'm not an expert on the technical side, but that may solve the problem with images not displaying without a frame in the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration (which is what led me here in the first place). - I have now moved it. I had been told that maybe it was better for it to remain in userspace, but I guess it's better in template space. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 00:49, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
