Merger proposal
[edit]I propose that Template:International recognition of states with limited recognition be merged into Template:States with limited recognition. I think that the content of the two template is quite the same, one contain more link, but to the states, and the other less but the international recognition; I think that the two template can be merge to create a template with the link to all international recognition. Stigni (talk) 00:55, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
- There are not two, but three different templates. One shows the States, and the second shows the foreign relations of States, third international recognition of these States. Each has its own purpose and each refers to the other pages. Therefore, all templates should be retained. With the proposed merger of I disagree. Jan CZ (talk) 05:36, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
China and Taiwan → PRC and ROC
[edit]I believe that in this template, China and Taiwan should be referred to by their official names: People's Republic of China and the Republic of China. This may make it easier for people to pick up on why Taiwan is unrecognized. Fizikanauk, please reply to this, as you have been the one undoing my edits. [Soffredo] 18:55, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
- All the other entities use their respective article name in this template. I cannot see any reason that China/Taiwan have any excuse to be an exception. Fizikanauk (talk) 06:29, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
Protection
[edit]I've just protected this page for a month due to the slow edit war that is ongoing. Please discuss changes here instead of edit warring. Mark Arsten (talk) 22:53, 17 September 2013 (UTC)
Rename
[edit]States with Partial Recognition. All of these States have (except for one) have partial recognition. All of these states (except for one) have limited recognition. Partial being akin to "the glass is half full" and Limited being akin to "the glass is half empty". It's not a big deal either way, however.Serialjoepsycho (talk) 00:20, 8 March 2014 (UTC)
- I'd suggest raising this at List of states with limited recognition, as any changes here would have to be replicated there. IMO there's not much difference between the two, though possibly a slight emphasis one way or the other. What's the most neutral way of putting it? 'Without full' perhaps? I'd be weakly against changing simply because of the line "If an article title has been stable for a long time, and there is no good reason to change it, it should not be changed" in Wikipedia:Article titles. --Super Nintendo Chalmers (talk) 08:31, 10 March 2014 (UTC)
Donetsk People's Republic
[edit]The template should be in line with the article List of states with limited recognition. Donetsk People's Republic is not listed in this article, moreover this “Republic” has been dissolved by the organizers. Aotearoa (talk) 14:14, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
- Agreed. No functioning "republic" ever existed. TDL (talk) 15:35, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
- even unrecognized implied de facto control, these guys controlled the floor of a building, not a region. --Львівське (говорити) 15:49, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
- Can an admin remove the Donetsk People's Republic please? I agree that it does not belong and a discussion has already been held on this. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 18:30, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

Please restore the stable version of this template without a link to Donetsk People's Republic (ie [1]) prior to the eruption of the edit war as per the consensus above and on associated pages: Talk:List_of_states_with_limited_recognition#People.27s_Republic_of_Donetsk and Talk:List_of_sovereign_states#Donetsk_People.27s_Republic. It was predominantly IPs and accounts with <50 edits which were adding it. TDL (talk) 17:48, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
- Support request. There was neither a state nor an attempt to recognise it. CMD (talk) 00:06, 10 April 2014 (UTC)
- agree, it should be removed since it was added without discussion. Frietjes (talk) 18:06, 10 April 2014 (UTC)
- Support request. Donetsk People's Republic is only movement, not a state. It has been listed here for four days without any consensus for adding it. The template is only additional gadget and must be in line with the main article (i.e. List of states with limited recognition). Aotearoa (talk) 20:21, 10 April 2014 (UTC)
Done Full protection expired this night, so I removed it again per this and other discussions. (non-admin) SiBr4 (talk) 21:09, 10 April 2014 (UTC)
The deletion of new states is not going to work, so this template should be updated accordingly. There is NO concensus here!Seraborum (talk) 13:44, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
- People in a building is not a new state. We included Crimea here when Crimea declared its independence, but Donetsk is a completely different situation. CMD (talk) 14:07, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
It is a new proclaimed state, as legitimate as other such cases like Somaliland.Seraborum (talk) 14:11, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
well so much for that, a WP:SPA reverted it back before new protection was added. what a joke. --Львівське (говорити) 16:05, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
A joke is how Ukrainian nationalists and Bandera supporters cannot face the reality, which is that East of former Ukraine is not going to tolerate government of extremists and that Ukraine is falling apart; no amount of online attempts to delete articles and push their POV is going to change that.Membrane-biologist (talk) 16:46, 11 April 2014 (UTC)- See what I'm talking about people?
Shills like this. --Львівське (говорити) 16:49, 11 April 2014 (UTC)Your personal attack, calling me "shill" and harassing any other editors is completely out of place here. If you cannot treat other people with respect, or restrain from insulting other people, it will not be tolerated here.Membrane-biologist (talk) 17:08, 11 April 2014 (UTC)- Membrane-Biologist, if you are going to subtly imply those that oppose you are Ukrainian nationalists and jokes, then don't be surprised when people respond in kind. Furthermore, nothing in your post was actually relevant to the conversation at hand, so I would advise you to read over wp:forum and wp:soap. CMD (talk) 17:30, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
- I apologize if my comment came across as a form of harassment, I just thought it relevant that your account came out of hibernation solely to argue on an AfD & edit war, pushing the POV that this 'republic' is real, and soapboxing anti-Ukrainian rhetoric as you did again above. I try to assume good faith but also call a spade a spade --Львівське (говорити) 17:48, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
- See what I'm talking about people?
- Edit: Ends up Membrane was a sockpuppet of Seraborum above, and banned. I must have ESP. --Львівське (говорити) 07:05, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- I have removed Donetsk People's Republic again, there appears to be a consensus here not to include it, the entry is also not included over at List of states with limited recognition. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 03:10, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
It seems the attempts at POV pushing have resumed [2]. There's so many Wikipedia policies that this addition violates that I don't even feel like listing them all. Just drop it. Seriously.Volunteer Marek (talk) 23:07, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
- I've just reverted the same inclusion of Donetsk People's Republic by the same user [3]. I've already tried to establish a dialogue with this user over Template:Administrative divisions of Ukraine with no response. Edit warring single warning issued, but it's definitely a case of WP:NOTHERE. --Iryna Harpy (talk) 01:13, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant
[edit]This keeps getting added and then removed. I'm the latest to remove it. Declaring yourself to be a state and not being recognised by official bodies (governments, UN, etc.) does not automatically make the declared state unrecognised. No official support means that you don't get a look in. Frankly, I could declare my front doorstep an independent state. I could get hundreds of people to sign a petition demanding that my doorstep should be recognised as an independent state. I could get media coverage over my dispute and sympathisers for my right to have my front step recognised as an independent state. The fact, however, will remain that no official entities recognise my front doorstep as anything other than my front doorstep in one of the states of Australia, therefore it will not be added to this list as an unrecognised state. --Iryna Harpy (talk) 23:26, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
- Then why Azawad and Bangsamoro Republik were added? and I belive your front doorstep is smaller than this

Territorial control of ISIS
3bdulelah (talk) 16:51, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
- I most certainly didn't add them, and I don't see them there now. It's also also unnecessarily snarky to make a pointed comment at me when I've been involved in the template via other issues and articles. --Iryna Harpy (talk) 00:15, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- The criteria for this template are the same as the criteria for List of states with limited recognition. ISIL doesn't meet the standard because it doesn't engage in any international relations without use of force. Someone the Person (talk) 06:58, 30 July 2014 (UTC)
- The map doesn't reflect its July 27th source. No reason to see it as accurate. Dougweller (talk) 15:18, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
- Agreed. The BBC source indicates that this map grossly exaggerates claims as to the extent of control. --Iryna Harpy (talk) 00:39, 12 August 2014 (UTC)

Catalan Republic 95.147.235.2 (talk) 12:23, 29 October 2017 (UTC)
- Not done: The Catalan Republic currently has no recognition, making inclusion in a template for states with limited recognition incorrect. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 17:01, 29 October 2017 (UTC)
- Eggishorn, I believe the confusion comes from the listing of Somaliland, which is also has no recognition as a state, but does have recognition as an autonomous region. Frietjes (talk) 17:10, 29 October 2017 (UTC)
- @Frietjes:, you are correct that no other nation recognizes Somaliland as an independent sovereign state, but there is recognition of Somaliland as a de facto ruling government. From the article Somaliland: "Somaliland has political contacts with its neighbours Ethiopia and Djibouti, as well as with South Africa, Sweden, the United Kingdom..." The proclaimed Catalan Republic has no such relations or contacts and is, at this point in time, a sub-state regional government with intentions of independence but without any international recognition at all. I hope this explains my earlier comment more thoroughly. Thanks. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 17:17, 29 October 2017 (UTC)

Can you add Montenegro to the list? Montenegro is not recognized by 13 UN member states as cited here: Montenegro still unrecognized by 13 "exotic" countries - B92 108.162.179.236 (talk) 16:27, 11 May 2018 (UTC)

- Done Actually, I did some research and I did it myself. Thanks. L293D (☎ • ✎) 03:04, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
- Actually L293D, its a UN member state. It fits in that category. 108.162.179.236 (talk) 16:49, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
- So sorry. Is it right like this? L293D (☎ • ✎) 16:55, 12 May 2018 (UTC)

Somaliland recognition
[edit]Please add Somaliland to the list of recognized only by non-UN members. It is currently recognized by Taiwan. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 14.136.68.129 (talk) 13:29, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
- They have established offices, but I've not seen a source which says they have gone as far as full recognition. CMD (talk) 14:38, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
The ministry of foreign affairs in Taiwan has listed Somaliland as a country independent from Somalia. https://en.mofa.gov.tw/CountryInfoEn.aspx?CASN=2&n=1289&sms=0&s=200&tabs=4ADF97FA97C9828B — Preceding unsigned comment added by 14.136.68.129 (talk) 10:59, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
- Better sources would be preferred, but that's a good find. CMD (talk) 11:46, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
This is the Chinese version so it's more detailed. It says the star on the Somaliland flag represents its successful independence, and the geology details say it's a country next to Somalia. https://www.mofa.gov.tw/CountryInfo.aspx?CASN=2&n=163&sms=33&s=200 They also have separate pages for Somalia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bluenam18 (talk • contribs) 12:10, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
