Color

[edit]

Thoughts on changing the template’s basestyle to white text on the color of the Flag of Seattle? Basically, I’m proposing that these lines replace lines 3–4 of the current version of the Template:
| basestyle = color:white; background:#00839a;
| title = [[Street layout of Seattle|{{colors|white|#00839a|Streets in Seattle}}]]

Support. Yellow isn't really a Seattle color, considering how little sun we get. SounderBruce 20:01, 4 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The color came from when I used the code from the LA Streets template. At least one other template used the same scheme so I thought it might be some kind of project standard. But agree that a Seattle scheme would look better. – Brianhe (talk) 02:52, 5 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The project that could enforce this standard (WP:USST) is kind of dead, so there's not really a precedent to follow. I would prefer the Seattle flag color be reserved (and used) on the city government templates, while changing this one to something more neutral, like the green used by other highway (state and national) templates. I’d support green, forest green, or even the defaults (header, subheaders). —LLarson (said & done) 03:30, 5 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The shade of green I used is pretty much the only standard we have on this, as it comes from the MUTCD (and is thus used on highway signs and street signs, which is especially relevant to this template). SounderBruce 03:44, 5 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Green works. For what it’s worth, it looks like the MUTCD specifies Pantone 342,[1] which is more
like this,[2] while the highway templates’ green that SounderBruce mentioned is more
like this. It’s very similar, but curious that there seems to be a discrepancy). —LLarson (said & done) 02:14, 6 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Might want to ask the regulars at WP:USRD about it. SounderBruce 02:47, 6 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it’s not that curious. (; I’ve bumped the template over to WP:USRD’s #006a4d green[3]LLarson (said & done) 03:02, 6 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for the late contribution to this discussion, but I just want to mention that the Seattle flag is not a widely used symbol for the city. As the city's website says, only three copies were ever made. City hall itself only flies the US and Washington flags. A color in wider government use is that of the city logo, which is also part of the Department of Transportation logo. All that said, per WP:NAVBOXCOLOR we should not get too carried away with colorizing this template. It might be just as well to leave it to the default navbox color scheme.
