[edit]The Brundtland Report defined sustainable development as ""development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." This can be tricky to interpret but I have avoided organisations that have activities that include, but are not confined to sustainable ends. Thus the old North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board is included, but its successor SSE plc is not. This is on the grounds that although it has a strong renewables division (which would qualify) the latter is responsible for very large amounts of carbon emissions, currently considered unsustainable.
Nuclear energy is a low emitter of carbon, but its sustainability is moot to say the least.
Nor are individual energy producers included as they can be found on Template:Energy in Scotland. There are a few exceptions which I will justify if need be. Ben MacDui
