Template talk:Use shortened footnotes

For {{sfn}} or all methods of shortened footnotes?

I added this template to Norman Conquest but was reverted by Ealdgyth: "that isn't exactly what is used here - so please do not use that template to tell folks to basically turn this into using sfn".

I've always thought this template simply indicates any method of shortened footnotes. The template doc certainly does not say it means {{sfn}}. The linked Help:Shortened footnotes only says that {{sfn}} is usually used, but not that it is the only method of "shortened footnotes".

Please discuss and let's improve the template doc to be unambigious in this regard. – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 17:53, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
