The image in this template needs to go, as fair use images cannot be used in templates, nor user pages (WP:FUC #9). I'm not taking it out myself cause I don't know what you'd want in its place. Just letting you know. -Goldom ‽‽‽ ⁂ 22:32, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- The Bender image that has been used as a replacement is also fair use... --LorianTC 09:39, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
Proposed alternate
[edit]I'm not a big fan of the current template; the long "futurama" would mar any user's page (if they're like me, and belong to several other groups). I've created an alternative: User:EVula/Userboxes/WPFU. I'm drumming up a consensus here before just arbitrarily changing it. EVula 21:48, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- I am also against the current one, and yours is better, but I don't know how we could make it look perfect. The only pd image I could find was my Image:Alien decoder.PNG and this would look bad. --WillMak050389 22:22, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- What about an image with just the "W" and "P" characters? EVula 22:46, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- I agree the other one was too long, I like the idea of using alien language 1 somehow, either as WP or what you have now WP: FUTU Stardust8212 22:50, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- Change it, dont know why you cant use fair use images in a template. I changed it as I was forced to, and couldnt think of anything else to put there. Jasrocks Talk 01:02, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- Copyrighted material should only be used to describe what is depicted in the article, that is why we can't use fair use in a userbox. Oh, and, as you probably know, I have both alien fonts I could use if we need them for a pd pic of WP or WP:FUTU. --WillMak050389 02:26, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

WillMak050389, go ahead and do an image up using the alien glyphs for just WP; I'm afraid that WP:FUTU will be too much and will become illegible (I mean, feel free to do it anyway, I just doubt it will read especially well and wouldn't want you to waste your time). Besides, if it is just "WP", it'll be a nice little inside gag that only those of us in the project will "get", just like the hidden language messages on the show. :)
Until the image is done up, I'm going to go ahead and replace the current one with mine, since the general consensus is that it is too long. EVula 06:43, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
I have added the WP, but it looks a little big and I am not sure how to scale it down just for the userbox. Hopefully someone here can? Thanks. --WillMak050389 15:26, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- The new image is pretty big, maybe a smaller version could be made? Also, black on dark purple doesn't look very good, maybe white would be better? --LorianTC 16:18, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- I shrank the image, but then it was obvious where the image ended and the background color began, so I tweaked it. Now it is rather seamless (at least on my monitor). If I had more time, I'd tweak the image some more. EVula 16:51, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- I changed the font to white, but one problem I'm trying to solve is that I dont know how to make an image with a transparent background (Image:Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar.png is an example) when I uploaded it with just a white background, Wikipedia kept the white background, is there a way to get it transparent? --WillMak050389 17:22, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- Not with Paint, you need something like Photoshop or GIMP (free). --LorianTC 17:30, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- So, this GIMP program, is it completely free? Like if I downloaded it from their website, I wouldn't have to ever pay for it, or is there some catch? --WillMak050389 17:39, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- No catch, welcome to the future of software, you'll love it. --LorianTC 17:50, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- Well, since the image has been adopted into the standard banner for this WikiProject, we should probably just create a different image, rather than updating this one again. Could you email me the image? I've got an idea for an alternative to a transparent PNG, but would rather work with the original file. EVula 16:36, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Transparent
[edit]Well, i got the image to be transparent but now the text is black again. I don't understand GIMP that well and I don't know how to make the text white. --WillMak050389 04:27, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
- Finally figured it all out. Got the white with the transparent and everything. --WillMak050389 17:11, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
