Double link?

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but is there any real benefit to having a link to the WikiProject at the bottom of the template if it's already given at the top? ;-) Kirill Lokshin 03:13, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Portal

Protection

This template is now perma-protected, since it's transcluded in a ton of talk pages. If there are any suggested changes, discuss them here and an admin will modify the template per consensus. – Quadell ^{(talk) (random)} 18:30, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

There are many similar biology and other templates that are used just as often as this that aren't protected, and it also goes against our guidelines to protect a page without past history of vandalism. It is also only on talk pages. Richard001 (talk) 10:32, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

I have lowered it to semi-protect. The reasoning given is that it is of "high-risk" as it is transcluded on a large number of pages. I think the risk is related to how it is actually implemented (by precopying text or on-the-fly insertion of the transcluded content - the second should not change the overhead) by media-wiki and that implementation may well have changed... who knows. I have added the full quality scale to this template per this request at the help desk. The template will now automatically show "Template", "Category" etc when added to the talk pages of these namespaces. Todo

The todo link at the bottom of the template is something related to the project. Since this template is used on numerous bird pages it would be better to have the todo link point to a talk page section or subpage that is article specific.
