Mr. Pitamber Sewani (born May 14, 1953, in Bagarji, District Sukkur, Pakistan) is a Pakistani politician and a vocal advocate for minority and social rights, particularly for the Hindu community in Sindh. He has served as a Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) of Sindh and is a member of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

Early Life and Background Pitamber Sewani was born on May 14, 1953, in Bagarji, a small village in the Sukkur District of Sindh, Pakistan. He joined the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in 1974, aligning with the party's ideology of social justice and equality for all citizens of Pakistan, regardless of their religion or ethnicity.

Political Career Sewani's political career began in earnest when he was elected as a member of the District Council. He served as the Treasurer of the Larkana Division for the PPP from 1993 to 1996. He was later elected to the Sindh Provincial Assembly (MPA) for two non-consecutive terms, first from 2008 to 2013 and previously in an earlier period. Throughout his tenure, he has remained committed to advocating for the rights of religious minorities, particularly Hindus, in Sindh. He also participated in MRD movement.

Advocacy for Minority Rights Pitamber Sewani is well-known for his outspoken stance against forced conversions and marriages of women from the Hindu minority community in Sindh. In 2012, Amnesty International issued an Urgent Action report (UA: 139/12 Index: ASA 33/007/2012) highlighting threats against Sewani and his colleague, Saleem Khursheed Khokhar, a Christian MPA, for their efforts in defending minority rights. Both politicians received death threats after publicly criticizing the abduction and forced conversion of Hindu women.

The report called on the Pakistani authorities to provide adequate protection for Sewani and Khokhar, who were granted additional security by Sindh's Chief Minister, Qaim Ali Shah. However, Sewani expressed concerns that the security provided was not properly vetted, especially in light of previous political assassinations of minority rights defenders, such as Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer and Federal Minorities Minister Shahbaz Bhatti.
