Introduction

[edit]

This page aims to keep track of the various known and suspected socks of User:Maleabroad. The motivation is to consolidate sock investigations in one place.

Note that socks sometimes appear as unregistered IP users, often from the IP range 136.159.32.*

This thread and this one suggest that there may be meatpuppets involved, too.

Anyone is free to contribute and add to this page, but for obvious reasons I (i.e. Abecedare) retain the right to revert/refactor any changes.

  • How to use this page:
    • If you spot an editor, who you suspect is a sock of Maleabroad, add his name as a new section.
    • List specific diffs and explain what ties the edit to Maleabroad.
    • If you are convinced that your/someone else's suspicion is unfounded, please strike out the corresponding entry.
    • Add the template {{sock|Maleabroad}} to the corresponding user page so that the Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Maleabroad is updated.
    • Maleabroad often adds many external links. You can quickly find the same URL on other pages using: Special:Linksearch
    • If you are an admin and are convinced by the evidence presented here, please block the corresponding account.
    • Once a sock is checkusered and/or blocked, please move it to the closed section.
    • Smile ... and repeat cycle. :-)

Active now (alphabetical order)

[edit]
  • Recognized via familiar edit pattern from previous sock. He has two socks operating on Ayya Vaikundar Buddhipriya 23:33, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Edits on Ramakrishna are to push a familiar web site. [[1]] Buddhipriya 23:35, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Only two edits in edit history, both to his usual pages, and one with a favorite web site. [4]
  • Familiar disruptive edits related to historical claims, angry edit summaries. First two edits made were to Shiva, both eidts involving controversial historical points that are part of the complex of Hindutva ideas. Buddhipriya 03:24, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
  • addition of hinduwiki link + Hindu saints content. Abecedare 21:40, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Familiar postings related to Buddha [5]. Buddhipriya 00:23, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Familiar themes related to Buddhism and use of external link: [6] Buddhipriya 20:32, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Familiar pattern of disruptive edits on Lingam and now Christianity. I think he is changing his pattern of pages following the very strong action against him. Buddhipriya 17:04, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
  • I suspect that Maleabroad is now involved with Lingam in connection with previous vandalism related to the Ligayat sect, as another confirmed sock of his (ChangeDetection) has been active there. See: [[7]]. For those who may be unfamiliar with this issue, the Lingayats are connected with certain social and political themes which Maleabroad espouses, and the Linga is an important symbol for them. Buddhipriya 19:20, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
  • In a clever twist, User:Philosopher1 has accused me of being a sock of Maleabroad. See: [8]. In response to my vandalism report he was given a short block per this edit: [9] Buddhipriya 19:20, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Username fits a common pattern of his involving use of 1 at end of a capitalized word, plus tension between Buddhist and Hindus and concern about use of the word Hindu for Brahmanic. [10] Buddhipriya 04:25, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Removed sock tags from previously known socks (thus confirming the suspicion :-) ) and vandalized my page. Abecedare 02:31, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Return to nastika theme quickly after rebuff of another sock User:Ndegree on this topic: [11].

Compare:

  • [12].
  • [13]
  • Replaced the sock of Maleabroad notice on his user page with a different sock warning: [14]
  • Active in same time period as sock User:Solidentry, main activity is to tag things as "brahmin" including Buddhist items. He appears to be on a Buddhist theme today. Buddhipriya 21:32, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
  • It may be too early to be sure that this is Maleabroad, but I have a gut feeling that the disruptive pattern of editing here is a sign of a tactic change. The pattern of immediately going into an edit war is characteristic on this brand new account. If he is not getting results on Hinduism pages he may be moving to direct disruption of Buddhism articles. Please put Buddhism on your watch pages. Edits show preoccupation with the origin of Buddhism. [16] Buddhipriya 22:40, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Muslim/Hindu hate theme immediately noticed as a sock by Orpheus. [17] Buddhipriya 04:33, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
  • His only edit stated in the edit summary "I am not a sockpuppet". Orpheus 09:57, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Edited the sockpuppet tag on his talk page [18] Orpheus 05:46, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Look at edit pattern relative to other suspected socks, and insertion of familiar web links. [19] Buddhipriya 23:17, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Blocked Socks

[edit]
  • [20] shows preoccupation with Buddhist verus Hindu themes. Buddhipriya 01:18, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  • [21] shows interest in Prahlada and external links related to Shrimad Bhagavatam; compare with this diff by another sock already blocked. Buddhipriya 01:18, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Note characteristic definition of Hindu as "Sanatan Parampara" the "Eternal Tradition.") [22] Buddhipriya 01:48, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Reference to sanatana dharma, reference to "fatherland", use of picture (you can recognize the scanner he uses) and edit immediately following one by Abcedare. [23] Buddhipriya 01:39, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
  • At first I was not not sure if this is a sock of Maleabroad or one of the other POV pushers, but it is definitely a sock of ChangeDetection, placking links to the web site, and editing on the same pages in some cases. It is proven to be Maleabroad by evidence for ChangeDetection. Buddhipriya 01:08, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Note use of term "sanatana dharma" in nationalist sense: [24] Buddhipriya 01:08, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Expresses traditional frustration [26], gets traditional reaction [27] [28]. Orpheus 01:02, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
  • I am not sure if this is a sock of Maleabroad or one of the other POV pushers, but it is definitely a sock of Bandwidthx, placking links to the web site. Buddhipriya 01:08, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Buddha as avatar of Visnu is a dead giveaway that this is Maleabroad. [29] Buddhipriya 01:17, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Another example of preoccupation with Buddha/Vishnu connections [30] Buddhipriya 01:23, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
  • This link to a web site may be useful to find other pages where socks are active. [31]
  • Edit immediately following Abecedare pushing nationism. [36]
  • Edits to page Mahabali on racist themes. Note interest in vegetarianism. [39] Buddhipriya 01:21, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Preoccupation with forms of Vishnu [40] Buddhipriya 01:23, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

The original. See contributions and block log, as well as various AN/I and 3RR threads for the full history.

  • Idea that Buddha is an avatar of Airavata [41] Buddhipriya 01:49, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Note term "neo-Buddhist" and preoccupation with Brahmins. Of possible use to flag new socks that express similar ideas. [44] Buddhipriya 04:39, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Edit to Culture of India uses a multilingual picture for Aum. Use of poor-quality images with copyvio problems is common. [45] Buddhipriya 01:41, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Note prior use of same aum image (102 0449.JPG) by ENV1. [46]. And same image used by another sock [47] Buddhipriya 03:08, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Preoccupation with vegetarianism. [48] Buddhipriya 01:25, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Preoccupation with vegetarianism and familiar behavior of trying to get into a revert war instead of moving a dispute to talk page [49] Buddhipriya 02:38, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Anti-Muslim rhetoric "Though cow-slaughter is officially banned in many parts of India, it is difficult to enforce the law and many people, most often the Muslims who consider the meat to be halal, illegally slaughter cows, and claim it is halal" [50]. Compare preoccupation with cows by Benevolent56 ("In both religions, the cow is the most sacred animal." [51] Buddhipriya 02:58, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
