The day chosen to celebrate the Transformers franchise is September 17th. It coincides with the airdate of the first episode of the G1[1] Transformers TV Series - More than Meets the Eye - Part 1[2][3], which aired on September 17th 1984[1][2]. A debate on whether to choose the Marvel comic publication date[4] or the airdate was settled through a poll[5]. Over 80% of fans chose the airdate[5]. This date was decided through a series of posts on multiple Transformers Facebook forums on May 24th 2017[5].
The date has also been discussed with writers Flint Dille[6] known for the episodes 'Five Faces of Darkness[7]' and Ron Friedman[8] who authored the screenplay for the 1986 animated feature film - The Transformers: The Movie [9]
The very first Transformers Day will be held on September 17th 2017[1][10], which is a Sunday.
