Dr. Ravindra K. Ahuja is an Indian-American computer scientist turned entrepreneur. He is a Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Florida in Gainesville and also serves as the President and CEO of Optym (earlier known as Innovative Scheduling), an automation software provider.

Dr. Ahuja has contributed to the theory and applications of network optimization.[1] He has a co-authored more than 100 research papers and book chapters in the areas of Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, and Computer Science. He has also co-authored three textbooks and been an Associate Editor of three journals: Operations Research, Transportation Science, and Networks.

Biography

[edit]

Dr. Ravindra K. Ahuja is a professor in the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department at the University of Florida, Gainesville, and is President and CEO of the automation software provider Optym, formerly known as Innovative Scheduling, Inc. He specializes in mathematical modeling, state-of-the-art network optimization techniques and solving large-scale scheduling problems arising in logistics and transportation. He has developed innovative models and algorithms for several airline scheduling, railroad scheduling and logistics problems that were previously considered intractable. Many of these algorithms are implemented using state-of-the-art decision support systems through his company, Optym.

Entrepreneur

[edit]

He founded Optym in 2000 to bring optimization techniques to the field of transportation and logistics by developing groundbreaking automation and optimization solutions for railroads, airlines, trucking and mining companies.

Professor

[edit]

Dr. Ahuja has held professorship at several prestigious universities including the University of Florida, Gainesville; the Sloan School of Management, MIT; and the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. Currently, he is a part-time professor at the Industrial and Systems Engineering, University of Florida, Gainesville.

Algorithm Designer

[edit]

Dr. Ahuja has developed various innovative models and algorithms for several airline, railroad, trucking, mining and logistics problems that were previously considered intractable. These models and algorithms have now been packaged into decision support systems at Optym.

Researcher

[edit]

Dr. Ahuja has contributed to the theory and applications of network optimization.[1] He has also co authored more than 100 research papers and book chapters in prestigious research journals, and was the former Associate Editor of four journals: Operations Research, Operations Research Letters, Transportation Science, and Networks.

Book Author

[edit]

Dr. Ahuja has co-authored three books: (i) Network Flows: Theory, Algorithms, and Applications[2]; (ii) Developing Spreadsheet-Based Decision Support Systems[3]; and (iii) Developing Web-Enabled Decision Support Systems[4]. The book "Network Flows: Theory, Algorithms, and Applications" is the most widely used text and reference book in its field worldwide.

Specialization

[edit]

Dr. Ahuja specializes in the domain of Airline Network Planning; Railroad Planning & Scheduling; LTL Optimization; Pickup & delivery; Network Optimization[1]; Supply Chain Management; Modeling and Optimization of Large-Scale Logistics Problems.
