Bill Spindler is the unofficial official historian of Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station in Antarctica. He wintered there 3 times, first in 1977 as station manager, and more recently in 2005 and 2008 as a construction engineer involved with the building of the current American station. He also spent 4 summers in Antarctica in the late 1980s, working at the American stations Pole, McMurdo, Palmer, and Siple.
