This page is not to be confused with the page List of alternative rock artists, which has become unnecessarily over-saturated with too many bands that are just tossed into the Alternative Rock genre without considering if the band has ever been described as alternative rock by the consensus or are even at all influential towards alternative rock (For example, Depeche Mode, though influential, was not even a rock band). Not to mention the page lacks citations and a good number of the links lead to disambiguation pages.

What should not be added here:

Alternative metal bands, such as Helmet, Alice in Chains, or Killdozer. There is already a list for these groups.
