Rhodococcus opacus is a aerobic, nonsporulating and nonmotile bacterium belonging to the genus Rhodococcus. The genus Rhodcoccus is notable for the wide biosynthetic capabilities of its species.

R. opacus has been suggested as a production organism for biofuels, due to its lipip production potential. A genome-scale metabolic model of R. opacus strain PD630 has been produced based on analysis of its genome.
