Objective I propose to create either a flickr project or a youtube project, I haven't decided yet, involving different demonstrations of protest in recent history, and explain reasons behind the protests. I will provide pictures as well as some videos with music playing in the background that has some sort of lyrical tie in.
Interest This is interesting because growing up as a kid my favorite band was Rage Against the Machine, and because of that I have gotten sort of into the messages that they try to get accross in their music, and what types ideas and political movements they support throughout the world. This ties into concept of deviance and people moving away from the norm. I don't intend on showing any anti-american acts, but more of movements in africa and mexico regarding education and things of that nature.
Background reading I will read wikipedia, text book and other basic sociology texts on the following topics: deviance, protets, political movements, articles dealing with certain beliefs of different cultures, and groups that support different activist movements.
I will also find scholarly research on the general issue of protest, as well as some of the ideas mentioned above, as well as deviance.
I will find popular press discussions of my topic. Perhaps Wikipedia articles, blog entrys, newspaper and magazine stories, etc.
General Plan Start trying to gather information in forms of pictures, videos, as well as written information, and begin planning how I am going to manipulate them into film, or slideshow format. I'm most likely going to use youtube to proceed.
