Broadway theater refers to theatrical performances staged in the large theters of 40 with 500 seats or more located in Manhattan, New York, USA.

History

From 1850s, the theatre of New York gradually was moved from downtown to midtown because They wanted low price of real estate.In 1870, Union square was the heart of broadway, the end of 19th century There were a lot of theatre around Madison square. Theatres did not exsist in Time square until 1900 and were built between 1920s and 1930s

Guys and Dolls (1950, 1,200 performances): a love story with comedy between handsome gambler, Sky Masterson, and righteous missionary, Sarah Brown

The King and I (1951, 1,246 performances): adapted from the semi-fiction novel "Anna and the King of Siam" written by Margaret Langdon; a clash of eastern and western cultures.

Cabaret (1966, 1,165 performances): based on John Van Druten's drama 'I Am a Camera' that was adapted from Christopher Isherwood's short novel Goodbye to Berlin.

Godspell (1971, 2,645 performances): Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak's musical that retells the Biblical stories of John the Baptist through the death of Jesus.

Jesus Christ Superstar (1971, 711 performances) : Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's rock musical that recounts Jesus' final days.

Pippin (1972, 1,944 performances): Stephen Schwartz' musical that tells of the prince of Western Roman Empire, Pippin, in nine century.

Grease (1972, 3,388 performances): Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey's 1950's influenced rock and roll musical comedy.

Chicago (1975, 898 performances): John Kander and Fred Ebb's musical, based on a 1926 play of the same name, that satirizes the criminal justice system in Prohibition-era Chicago.

A Chorus Line (1975, 6,137 performances): Marvin Hamlisch and Edward Kleban's musical based on the lives of members of the chorus.
