Suprematist Composition: White on White (Russian title: Супрематическая композиция - Белое на белом (Белый квадрат)) is an oil painting by Russian suprematist painter Kazimir Malevich.
The canvas, painted white, is a square 79.4 cm on each side. Within the field is a smaller off-center quadrilateral, a nearly square shape about half of the size of the canvas also painted white, which is rotated clockwise approximately 15 degrees and has two corners nearly touching the edges of the canvas. The painting is held by the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, which hangs the painting with the smaller square situated closest to the upper-right hand corner; Malevich refused to identify what, if any, orientation is correct.[1]
Malevich painted White on White in 1918 as part of a series of white monochromatic paintings.
