Melkastanophobia is a fear, hate, resentment, or contempt of dark brown skin.

The term is derived from Melanophobian (fear of black) and Kastanphobia (fear of brown).

Melkastanophobia is prevalent in Northern parts of the Indian sub continent who demonstrate the trait towards South Indians and Sri Lankans. Within Sri Lanka, Melkastanophobia also exists by the Singhalese towards the Tamil.

Bollywood has been criticised for this type of discrimination when recruiting actors.
