Seaborn Networks, a US owned and controlled company, is the developer and operator of the Seabras-1 submarine communications cable between North America and South America. Seabras-1 is a new fiber optic cable that will provide the only direct route between the United States and São Paulo, Brazil. The system will also have a branch landing in Fortaleza, Brazil. [1][2][3]
This Miami to São Paulo direct route will provide reduced latency between the United States and Brazil as compared to existing submarine cable systems. Using 100GBit/s technology, the capacity of the cable will be 32 TBit/s and will stretch over 10,500 kilometers in length. Seabras-1 is targeted to be ready for service in late 2014.
